WIR ordered Woohoo!! - Its up photos added

Recommended Posts

Lewis delivered my WIR on 1st September and it is great :D you won't regret it. What size will it be? Will you need to get more chooks to fill it? My OH says that I am not supposed to be filling mine up straight away but it is so tempting!

I'm trying to be sensible about the number of chickens we have, the plan has always been to just add a couple each year so we always have some layers. It's difficult to stick to that even without the WIR especially when you look at all the beautiful cute new chickens that everyone on here is always getting. :) Looking at your signature Figarogirl I have a long way to go to catch up with you :lol:

15 foot x 6 foot with the cube on the outside, but with a hatch so the cube roof can be slid back without having to move the cube. :)

What are you putting the actual WIR on? The only reason I ask is that we also had a WIR built with the hatches for the eggport and the trays at the back of the Cube. However we had used some oak sleepers as a base which meant that even after we had slabbed the inside of the run it was still a couple of inches lower than the top of the sleepers. When the run was built the doors didn't line up with the Cube and my OH took some of the panels out and had to rebuild them with the hatches lower down so that it all lined up. We had spent so much time working out where we wanted the doors and how big we wanted the WIR that we hadn't taken the height of the base into consideration :wall:

Only a couple of days to go now, getting a bit excited :dance: Lewis is arriving at 7.30 on Monday morning :shock: , unfortunately I have to go to work but OH is working from home so hopefully he will keep me up to date with proceedings :D

Sorry Mercesdes55 only just seen your post from last month :oops: , WIR is going on a patio OH laid so hopefully we shouldn't have any problems with levels :anxious::pray:

We've got our Cube and Eglu inside the WIR and there were times I wasn't sure it was going to work having them inside because of the difficulties of cleaning. However today we have cleaned both the Cube and Eglu and it was actually quite easy. The Eglu is small enough to just take the roof off and take the whole thing out onto the lawn to clean. At the back of the Cube we have a pair of double doors on the top half of the run and we open them to take the trays out and to access the back of the Cube. The only thing I wasn't able to do was use a hosepipe inside the Cube as it would have wet all the rapport on the floor, so instead I just used my steam cleaner and made sure all the inside was clean and sterile. Of course I am now totally worn out :?

Alice and Mary didn't like the new ladder last night, they really struggled to get up it. I think we may have to make a new one thats a bit wider or fit the old cube one back up if they don't get use to it today.

Now how many new girls do you need to stop it looking empty???!

How many can you fit in there then? :lol:

:lol::lol::lol:

Well I was thinking of adding just a couple more, but need to sort out a quarantine area and introduction area. I thought that I could possible use the old run, get a new end panel for the open cube end and pop a Go inside? But OH thinks we are going to sell the old run so I have go slowly with him and drip feed the ideas to him, until he thinks it was all his idea. :lol:
