Couperwife
ive just bought a ball of frilly wool its a bit like a tape rather than wool and you knit into the tape rather that wrapping the wool around the needle (is this making sense yet? ) anyway, it makes a rather funky looking scarf it only takes one ball and knits up really nicely Frilly wool shop is the place I got it from, and the first picture on the home page it what im making ive picked lime green for my first scarf what do you think?? cathy x
abwsco
They had that where I went for wool for my attempt at learning to crochet. It's lovely They also had some pom pom wool!

Plum
Shall be interested to see how you turn it into frilly things. Good colour
craftyhunnypie
Flippin' 'eck that's a lot cheaper than the wool that I've just bought off ebay! I got the Katia Ondas in a mix of blue colours. It's very nice, but yours is a lot cheaper & at your price I can knit everyone a scarf! Thanks for that! My needles are to the ready. chickweed
It looks lovely, Cathy. What size needle are you using, and how many stitches?
Couperwife
my instructions are: cast on 6 stitches as normal using 5mm needles (UK6) put the right hand needle through the stitch as normal. instead of wrapping the wool round the needles (as you would normally do) with your right hand unravel the wool so that the netting shows, then pull the wool away from you towards the right hand needle point, and inset this needle into the top of the wool (approx 3/4inch along the length of the wool) and finish the stitch as normal. ie. pull right hand needle back through the stitch and off. do this on every stitch until nearly all the wool has gone. cast off as normal. hope this is helpful, it does actually make sense as you are knitting it...(honest ) its not a "quick" knit - but it does look good cathy x
craftyhunnypie
I'm going to put a ball of your £3.50 wool & some needles in my christmas boxes to my mum & sister. Think they'd enjoy making a scarf rather than me making one for them. Emma.x
chickweed
Thanks for the instructions, Cathy. I think I will give it a go, just need to send away for the wool. Oh, and complete the other two items I have on the go, and make a start on the woolly hat I promised my grandson.
craftyhunnypie
I've nearly finished my Katia Ondas frilly scarf. It looks really nice! Quite posh - will need a new coat to wear it with now. Emma.x
craftyhunnypie
Cathy - I've got some more wool & already finished one frilly scarf, but I have a question. When I got near the end of the wool I casted off as normal. I then threaded the remaining bit of tape / yarn through the last stitch to secure, but it wasn't so secure really. How have you finished yours off? I've now got a blue tones scarf, a pinky purple one half done & some green tones yarn for rustling up into a frilly nilly! The pinky purpley has a long pulled thread hanging from it though, I'm gutted. Think it was my fault, I probably caught it with a ring. Oops! I'm a bit worried about snipping it off though, so don't know what I'm going to do with it yet. Anyone seen the Patons curly wool? Now that makes a nice scarf too! Daphne
I am useless at crafts so don't look in here much - but I love that scarf I've just bought myself a frilly one in quite a bright pinky/green tartan (think its soft material rather than wool) from Fenwicks and it cost me £15, just so you can do a cost comparison. It hugs your neck and is super-cosy as well as being a bit more decorative than some scarves

Couperwife
yay the main thing is to not be frightened of it. use your right hand to stretch out the wool width ways and knit into the top bit give it a go, if you struggle ill try and do some photos (she showed me how to do it, so photos could help cathy x
craftyhunnypie
The way I do it is.. Go in & out of the spread out mesh until you have 9 stitches or whatever on your needle, about 1 inch apart from each other. Insert right needle into stitch as normal. Then hook the top of the mesh over your needle instead of wrapping round - then knit the stitch as normal. Emma.x
