MissMac
I've just got home and one of our hens is lying down in the run, with an egg she's obviously laid during the day next to her. She's not moving much (although did try to peck the dog through the bars of the run!) and looks pretty lethargic and unwell. Both hens have been wormed etc recently and she's not very old (we got her as POL in June). The other hen appears to be perfectly healthy. Any suggestions/help would be very much appreciated as I'm not sure what's best to do to help.
Egluntyne
I'd give her a thorough examination as described **here**. She may just have a soft egg in the pipeline, and that can make them quite off it for a while.
MissMac
Thanks for the suggestion - the egg she's laid today seems to be a normal one. I'm getting increasingly worried about her lack of movement though. She hasn't got to her feet at all since I got in. Will try the exam... MissMac
Had a good look at her. It seems that she may have injured her leg. It's shaking and sticking out at an odd angle. She can't stand, but is otherwise pecking at the grass and doing ok. She can shift her body, just not stand. Going to try and see if we can get her to the vets. I have no idea what could have happened to her. Any further suggestions, or any suggestions of how I can make her comfortable in the meantime? chick wiggle
Aww bless her, id put her in the box your going to take her to the vets in, keep her in the dark, warm and quiet to stop her trying to move around too much. One of my girls developed a very bad limp but the vet couldnt find anything wrong with her. We gave her antiinflamatorys and pain killiers and after a long while it got better but every now and again it seems to flare up again. Other than that, shes fine. Will keep my fingers crossed for you girl
