Breeders in the NW?

Recommended Posts

We just got a Gold Laced Orpington Bantam and a French Copper Black Maran, both 9 weeks old from Torkington Poultry last Sunday. Nicola is very friendly and helpful and the chickens (and rare breed pigs) all look healthy and happy. Our two, Dotty and Flo have started to settle nicely in the Eglu, and look really healthy, in fact we can't believe how fast they're growing! I'd go there again as I liked everything about it and it's a small business. The rare breed pork is yummy too. All the opening hours etc are on their Facebook page

It's eight weeks since we got Dottie and Flo from Nicola at Torkington Poultry, and they are growing more and more beautiful as the weeks go by. We got four ex-bats two weeks ago, two of which have been needing extra attention, and after having one in solitary for a week, as the other ginger ninjas were attacking her, we put her out in the large run with Dottie and Flo, and they all went to bed together last night. They all seem fine together, and we've let the others out with them in the day today - so far, no major ructions! Below - link of Harriet with Dottie and Flo.

I would say again, I would definitely recommend Torkington Poultry for 'pedigree' hens, and it's been fun getting them young and watching the adult plumage grow in, and if you can get a few ex-bats as well, go to the BHWT, as it's saving lives and is very rewarding seeing them losing their bald patches, though Beatrice is still bald all over - she looks like an oven-ready chicken!

Everytime I see a picture of ex batts I want to cry ..it was not until I had my 3 girls GNRGNRPP and love them which was only 3 months ago I don't think I realised how bad the state of ex batts were.

My girls are from omlet and not ex batts but I am sure that now I know more about chickens and realise the terrible conditions that ex batts live in , my next purchase will be ex batts for certain. My garden is small but they roam about all the time we are in and if we are out they are in a 12 x 6 ft WIR .

Well done for caring for these girls  , please keep sending in the photos as they progress.

I got my gold Laced orp bantam from Torkington poultry. She doesn't have loads of different breeds and specialises in bantam orps. She has a good setup though and was very friendly and helpful. i got lost on the way and rang her every 15 mins for directions. I'm sure I got her number of poultry pages. :)
