I have hunters cos theye the only ones where the tops don't gape hugely. DH goes for town and country. I want to get some nice leather muck boots. Found some treadstone ones I love but can I find a dealer? As for socks, I used to wear ski socks but have been 'borrowing' ds1s joules welly socks and wearing them over my own and the difference is amazing. I didn't pay £169 for them though It is worth having them as I spend so much time doing work outside, and it is nice to have boots that don't look out of place in the pub after we've finished. They are leather but waterproof, and you can hose them down. I got some of the fluffy boot linings and they do keep my feet warm when out all day, especially if combined with ski socks. I've had them quite a while and they still look almost brand new. I also have a pair of Squaddie boots (Magnum Stealth Force 8 CT/CP) that keep my feet warm and dry, and have hard toe caps for when I need safety boots. When it's snowy and cold, nothing I put in my wellies is warm enough, so I wear The North Face Chilkats. I usually suffer from terribly cold toes...but these boots keep my feet toasty...which I didn't think was possible given my poor circulation! I walk my daughter to school...30 minutes in total...when I get home my feet are positively warm...fantastic!
