LolaLayla
Great, thanks. I will be down to the shops tomorrow to stock up I have looked online for recipes but a lot of them have American ingredients which I am not sure about although I could probably check with my friend in the US. I hope you get a lot of recipes with it! It is due on Thursday and my DS is nearly as excited as I am.....does that make me very sad that I am excited about a blender? migsy
Wow, I was curious enough to look this up http://www.johnlewis.com/231326917/Product.aspx Does it really do all that? Make hot soup in 5 mins, ice cream in 30 sec? Wow! It sounds like magic. It is a shame that I cannot afford one.
squiffs
Blimey! I'd want it to clean the kitchen twice a week and put the dinner on the table for that price!

You could have a lot of ready meals for that price. OK, they might not be quite so healthy!

True but - you don't need a £450 gizmo to eat healthily, even if it would make you more enthusiastic about it
LolaLayla
I know it is expensive but I have probably spent as much over the years on cheaper blenders etc that just did not come up to the mark. It's not that I don't like a bargain. I am the first to use coupons and find out best deals but I have given it a lot of thought and when asked what I wanted for my birthday thought that's what I would like (I have been persuaded by some of the reviews here and encouraged by the fact that people are still using the machine regularly) . OH is greatly relieved that I could think of something for him to get me Also I can use the veg from the garden for soups and hopefully it should be simple enough for YS to make soup too......without using all the pans/dishes/cutlery in the house! LolaLayla
Its arrived! I have made cheese sauce for pasta. I can honestly say I will not be making it in a saucepan again, it was so simple and passed my son's test. (He is obsessed with macaroni cheese!) I have also made smoothies and ice cream, which turned out well. I made some soup too but think I need to play about a bit with the ingredients. I am going to keep it on the work surface though as that way I will definitely use it a lot. So far I have made reasonably healthy things however I have bought cream, Baileys.............. ........ Griffin
Cheese sauce is great in it. I use my Vitamix to crush ice for my Baileys. Infact I feel inspired to go make it that way now before I venture out into the garden to try spot the meteor shower
craftyhunnypie
The Baileys Mousse is extra naughty but extra nice! Haven't made that in ages. Hmmm. I agree the cheese sauce is amazing - try it over leeks, with a bit of extra grated cheese, then in the oven for a few mins - yummy. LolaLayla
The Baileys Mousse is extra naughty but extra nice! As I mentioned I have got the ingredients for this but not sure of amounts. I was just going to experiment but if you could let me know that would be great Apart from the folder and DVD you get with the machine where have you found recipes? I have also looked at some videos on the vitamix forum for inspiration. I see that there is a book that you can buy. Do you have it? and if so is it worth getting? I am so pleased with it though The smoothies are lovely, nothing like you buy in the supermarket. I had to laugh though, as my YS (17) echoed my thoughts on this thread when he said to me while blending, "is it lame that I am excited about this?" chick wiggle
So, I went down to the shed, got out my biggest spade, and dug up this old thread. I have taken the plunge and am awaiting delivery of my Vitamix and am hoping to hear all your comments on how you still use yours everyday and how wonderful it is... please? chick wiggle
Oh blimey, I hope this silence doesn't mean all your vitamixes are gathering dust in the back of a cupboard?!
SallyD
Hi. I've had my Vitamix for just over a year now and use it every day. I use it to make green smoothies, soup, pesto, cheese sauce, milk shakes, ice cream , pasta sauces, houmous and probably other things I've forgotten about! I keep it out on the work top so it's always easily accessible. It's one of my best purchases for the kitchen!
chick wiggle
Oh phew, that's good to hear, thanks Sally, mine is been delivered later today & I've already been shopping for ingredients to try a few things tonight, very excited
