bouldercroft
I started added a few sheets of newspaper to the poop tray of my as it was helping with fast clean-up but I've noticed an ammonia smell - I'm guessing the newspaper is holding onto the smell - which is wasn't before? any ideas? Egluntyne
I think you are right. I find very few smells with just plain Aubiose, whereas in the past, when I have used newspaper, or shredded paper, the smell has been quite noticeable ... and it can't be good for them to be inhaling this. Donna C
I did the same , noticed smell and water in botton of tray. After calling omlet and arranging man to come out, i noticed i was blocking drainage holes. OOPPs . Nowi put garden lime in tray and so far so good. Christian
The drainage holes are only there to help when washing the tray. There shouldn't be any water in the tray, as chickens don't urinate. Aubiose is great in the droppings tray as it absorbs moisture and should prevent smells.
sezra
I also had water in my tray when I emptied it this week and thought it was strange. I think I will try aubiose on top of the paper to add to the absorbancy.
lolaandtilly
Hi, I use newspaper in trays then add a little bit of straw scattered over it. Works a treat, soaks up any moisture and reduces smell, also very easy to clean ,it all just slides off into compost bin.
The Dogmother
I don't recommend using newspaper - it wicks wetness towards it, so the bottom of the poo tray will be soggy and smelly. Stick to Aubiose and a sprinkle of BioDri.
Jools
I've sometimes used sheets of newspaper in a couple of my houses (the design of the others makes it impractical) and the trick is to remove the top sheet (and all the droppings) each morning - it works a treat
