dazza666
hello all, I had to take one of my chickens to the vet this morning because she was not well at all she has a watery discharge coming from her beak, and couldn't stand up at all, one of her legs was just laying behind her, when I picked her up to check her out and placed her back down again she just fell over... vet thinks I should put her to sleep...otherwise im looking at £200 for x rays and so on... any advice? jill the potter
So sorry to hear that. I think I would go with the vets advice, they don't usually suggest it without good reason. Had to have one of mine PTS a couple of months ago, it's not a nice decision to have to make, but it will be in the chicks best interest. MarkBevBen
Oh Dazza, as Jill says it's just blooming awful isn't it. We've also lost two girls in a very short space of time. I really feel for you
dazza666
yeah, it sucks...she was OK yesterday...guess my decision is made
Mollie333
Its sometimes kind to be cruel.. Its really up to you. But i'd go with what the vet recommends. The vet was asking £120 a day to keep my little polish frizzle in, and there was a good chance she wouldn't respond anyway, so we thought it would be the best. So sorry. x
Egluntyne
I'd be guided by your vet. She is suffering, and there are no guarantees that treatment will work.
Donna C
It really is hard, i had to have all 3 of my ex-batts put down withine months of each other. I felt like i was playing god and shouldn't . But i know now i stopped anymore suffering and that was the most important thing. sending a big hug, let us know how you get on . Patricia W
Vet's don't suggest putting any animal to sleep easily so he must think she's suffering. I think you should go with his advice. She's had a good life with you so remember that.
coco
I had Coco PTs a few weeks ago. It wasn't an easy descion to make but I couldn't let her suffer. When an animal is suffering its the last kindness you can do for them.
