Chicken shack
I have often mentioned my light sussex Lazy Daisy who hasn't laid an egg since we got her in August. Well just as I was leaving for work today I checked the nesting box and couldn't believe my eyes there was the biggest chickens egg I have ever seen next to Bluebells' small pink one. I had to weigh it and it came in at a little over 120g. Because I have different types of chickens I can always tell who has laid which egg and new this was her first although I think there may have been a soft shell that was hers and had fallen through the roosting bars about a week ago. I didn't know keeping chickens would be this much fun. She will now be known as clever Daisy.

beach chick
wow!!! well done Lazy Daisy that's amazing- and gives me hope for our Fairy, who is also a LS and was meant to be almost POL in early July, but I think judging by the comb size and face furniture, will not lay until well into the spring

jill the potter
Jill the potter; I am also a potter. Do you pot professionally or is it a hobby? what sort of stuff do you do?
Chicken shack
I guess you could call me profesional however I don't make a great deal from selling. I teach ceramics 4 days a week at an adult college and have a wounderfull studio at Valentines Mansion. http://www.valentinesmansion.com We have a group exhibition once a year and hold open studio's 3 times a year. I do have a web site but can't remember the last time I updated it or even checked it Whoops I also teach private summer schools (naked raku) and 1 day raku courses. My work is all over the place as I like to try news things. How about you
jill the potter
Same here really. Spend way too much time teaching other people how to pot and not enough time doing it myself. Teach from home now as made redundant by Local authority after teaching in adult ed for 15 years. Scary when first set up but 4 years on and going strong!!! Great working from home - can keep a beady eye on the chooks!!!
Chicken shack
I have been working for our local authority for 20 years and who knows what will happen with all the cut backs. OH works from home and spends all day chook watching, feeding the grey squirrels and riding his bike, he loves it. Love your work by the way. I had a look at your link. Chicken shack
Poor Lazy Daisy is unwell now. I am not sure what is wrong but she can't walk. I have had to isolate her from the other three. She is eating, her comb is red and her eyes are bright. A trip to the vets tomorrow I think if she's not up and walking. I hope she is not egg bound.
