I've closed the door on them tonight and they have been tucking into the pumpkin head from last week all day. Very funny sight seeing 4 hens with their heads inside a spooky pumpkin!! So they are stuffed to the gills with wiggly mash and shut in. My question is will I get any side effects from all the bangs (no eggs, frightened hens)? Any help from those with much more experience welcome please. I already have a quivering dog and 2 children lightsabering each other with toothbrushes!! Need wine! Calamity Jane Posted November 6, 2010 Share Posted November 6, 2010 My next door neighbours have had a MASSIVE fireworks party going on for about 2hrs. This is my first year with chucks and, having just moved them onto the patio near the house to be safe from the elements, means I inadvertently moved them right next to the fireworks. I have been worrying about them all night, but I daren't look in on them in case I disturb them again. I am just keeping my fingers crossed they are all right . The bangs were really loud and very close - if I had known they were having a fireworks party I might have brought them indoors this afternoon before they went to bed. Trougher Posted November 6, 2010 Share Posted November 6, 2010 My ex-batts were fine, we checked on them last night after the neighbourhood fireworks had stopped, and they were fine, and seem absolutely normal this morning. LauraJ Posted November 6, 2010 Share Posted November 6, 2010 We had a few fireworks in our area last night - I went to check my lovelies and they were all snuggled up together and didnt seem too bothered. The dog however spent the whole evening shaking, panting and hiding even though we stayed in all evening to look after him! This evening there is a huge fireworks display in the country park just down the road so I might end up putting ear muffs on the dog. At least I know the chickens are sensible! Alis girls Posted November 6, 2010 Share Posted November 6, 2010 Well I am surprised to say I had 2 eggs this am from 3 chucks - I was expecting softies , or as my OH said (being a novice chuck dad) we'll probably found they've laid a dozen overnight - I wish - this is a miracle as I forgot to open the pod of the Eglu go for them to sleep in after cleaning it so they are in the run in the dark with bangers going off all around. Angie Posted November 6, 2010 Share Posted November 6, 2010 I am a first year, nervous firework chicken mummy. I live two streets from the Park where the firework display is held every year. I was so worried for them, I had to keep going out down the garden to put my ear up close to the cube to listen for them, just in case they were disturbed. Not a peep, my little dog was more stressed than my chickies. I did shut them in as soon as they went to bed and covered the cube to stop most of the flashing...again in case they were bothered by it all. I'm therefore really surprised to see on the Omlet newsletter advice that you might need to bring them indoors! I guess if you are having them in your garden? But I'd assume most pet owners don't... See what we get tomorrow as it's even louder tonight! Typically we have about 2 dozen eggs on back order for friends who are buying from us so we need them at full capacity! The fireworks started really early and they were so close to the house - so I rushed out to see if they were OK and to shut them into their eglu. My two Omlet chickens were standing in the eglu run looking up at the bright lights in the sky. If they could have ooh-arghed - I think they would have! It was truly hilarious. I think it is because we already live on quite a noisy road and they were quite acclimatised to noise. Still, I have long lost my two original darlings and I am aware that all chickens are different.
