craftyhunnypie
Rolo - our black rock is about 3 and a half years old. We got her at 18weeks on 18th August 2007. Ahh. She is in tip top condition & very spritely still. Her comb is bright red & today she laid an egg again. She's had a big break from them since late Spring. Ahh love her to bits! Such a shame that the 2 she was bought with Smartie the leghorn & Bounty the magpie are no longer with her. Still she loves living with the Mighty Spongebob ( frizzle) & his pekin ladies - plus Dizzy & Mini me ( cochin x Wyandotte & goldline). All live very happy in the orange cube & were in a large heap today in the raised bed dust bath. What a super chicken Rolo is. I was told she was a true black rock & I am very sure she must be! beach chick
that's lovely. our oldest is Chardonnay, a silver sussex who came to us in May 2007. she still lays (a lot better than some of the other younger girls!) and she is definitely top chook still, but in a nice way. skye
Good girl Rolo! Truly a super chicken! Crafty, our Yolko came to us almost on the same date as Rolo came to you, 16 Aug 2007 Like Rollo, she is also the elder stateswoman of our little flock, currently raggy and moulting but until a couple of weeks ago laying the most perfect eggs steady as you like Hoping she sees another winter through so she can enjoy all the new green shoots of spring beyond her fourth birthday
Egluntyne
I still have Kentucky and Paxo, Black Rocks acquired in July 2006 at POL. They still lay, very occasionally and are big, hearty girls, whereas the ginger hens that I got at the same time have long since gone. green
What good girls! I think I want to get a Black Rock next, they sound like tough little chooks. (I do have enough room for three, but I'm dreading intros especially when the weather's getting colder. Maybe next summer... )
Lewis
Well done Rolo! I do miss my black rocks PP Eggs everyday and were always at the front of the queue by the back door! Everytime I see someone elses hybrids, they definitely have a hybrid smell to them - different to banties. Don't know what it is
