Mobile Phone insurance???

Recommended Posts

Well Oh Wise Ones........... is it worth it or not?

Who do you insure yours with? Am in a complete quandry........

I had to take out insurance when I got a new phone, and have cancelled the policy due to their bad reviews, however they are pretty much insisting that I still pay a small amount to cover any potential unauthorised usage incase of theft.... I am not sure about it really.

would I be better cancelling completely and going elsewhere, or not doing it at all?

Heeellllllpppppppp

Is it not covered on your household policy?

I remember several times being given free months of mobile insurance, then having to phone & cancel,& them being VERY insistent.

Just be firm, stand your ground & say no!

You never, never ever HAVE to take out insurance on a phone - they are in it for the money... remember that when you call them back :D

my phone is covered on my household insurance for damage or theft

What is not covered however is unauthorised use, I used to have insurance against this but was burgled and the phone taken, the insurance company wriggled out of paying for the calls made before the phone was blocked so I lost faith in the whole thing then!!

I also have a couple of friends who had their phones used and couldnt claim for one reason or another

My advice is get it covered on the house insurance for goods away from home and accidental damage and then keep it safe at all times and if it should disappear block it immediately and pray that whoever pinched it/found it doesnt have relatives in some far flung country!!

When i was looking into getting an iphone i discovered my bank (LloydsTSB) does insure mobiles if you at least take their silver account (and pay extra for, i think at the mo it's £3 a month for the first two full months then up to £7.95.) which as mentioned above also comes with other things like travel insurance, AA etc. One thing to be aware of though is it does't kick in until 3 months of your upgrade so you'd need to check any small print.

Had a policy with the Carphone Warehouse - my advice is DON'T!!!!! Total rip off and when I did make a claim they weaseled out, Also when you cancel your existing policy check your account or a while - they kept taking money from me for several months which I never got back - over £100.

That's useful, Fred.

Orange were offering it for £15/month when I got my iPhone ... they do guarantee (they say) to get a new phone to you within 24 hours, but I checked and mine is covered under the household insurance. I decided to buy a case and be careful with it - I know a couple of people who have dropped their iPhones and cracked the screen, but I reckoned at £50 to replace it, that was cheaper than paying insurance for a year.

All insurance is a gamble; I generally prefer to take the risk myself with this sort of thing.
