SallyD
Hi. I'm about to have my kitchen painted and wondered if any of you could advise me on colour. I'm looking for a really nice shade of cream (not buttermilk, I've used that before) for the walls but there are so many to choose from I don't know where to start! I'm painting my wooden kitchen cupboards with barley white so need something a bit deeper to contrast with this. Thanks Sally
clootie
Sounds lovely!! It really depends on how much natural light you have in your kitchen and which direction it faces as colours look completely different at different times of the day. My advice would be to get some tester pots and paint some boards so that you can move them around. They can be pricey but worth it in case of mistakes later when it becomes really pricey!! Voice of experience here!! Good luck
BeckyBoo
No good asking me - my kitchen is pale sea blue with windowsills that are yellow with pink spots. The dining room is orange with pink flowers and the hall is lime green and purple. Me bedroom is deep red and gold - not into shades of white altho they always look lovely when I see them done Require pictures of the finished article so I can say "I wish I could do pale tasteful colours!" Chickendoodle
I agree - get lots of tester pots as the light in the room really affects how the colour looks on the walls. This will avoid what happened to me - chose a lovely creamy shade which perfectly matched the wallpaper, OH painted the whole living room while I was at work and as soon as I walked in I didn't like it - the light in the room and the wooden floors had made it go a horrible pinky colour. Got tester pots and we ended up choosing the one that looked the worst match on the pot!
Cranfield Kate
I'm about to paint my kitchen too and I'd like to be a bit more adventurous than the pale beige i have everywhere else... I love the sound of BeckyBoo's! not sure I'd have the guts for it though... quite fancy this though: http://www.muralswallpaper.co.uk/flower-wallpaper-mural.htm
Lavenders_Blue
Hubby works in the building trade and swears by 'Gardenia' as a good neutral shade. In fact our whole house is a vision in gardenia! But I agree that it's best to get some testers and try them before committing the colour to your walls
Cinnamon
Speaking as somone who recently bought a few paint samples to find that 2 of them were the same shade the room was already painted,I would recommend the Dulux site. They have a really good mix & match thingy there - choose your colour & they will suggest toning or contrasting ones for you I am looking at a nice duck egg shade for my kitchen next,& I want the colour of unpainted plaster in my living room
Charlottechicken
Wilkinsons have lots of neutral shades in their paints this year. Are you thinking of coffee type colours, or yellow or pinky tones to go with the barley cupboards? Just noticed Wickes have a nice moisture resistant paint called scallop, but it's quite a plaster pink (I have all the paint charts!) I usually choose Wickes paint, I find too much choice quite off putting Oh, and my kitchen is always green!
Willow
Cinnamon said I want the colour of unpainted plaster in my living room That's what I have - colour is dulux sunbaked terracotta. This was a real departure for me as I'm usually a blue/jade green person but we have some lovely curtains given to us by a friend with good taste and this was the best colour to go with them. I liked the colour on the walls so much I used it again in my study despite having curtains with some blue in for the study so could have gone for my usual blue http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.jsp?action=detail&fh_secondid=9191062&fh_view_size=10&fh_eds=%3f&fh_maxdisplaynrvalues_featuresBrand=-1&fh_location=%2f%2fcatalog01%2fen_GB%2fcategories%3c%7b9372013%7d%2fcategories%3c%7b9372030%7d%2fcategories%3c%7b9372120%7d%2f_colourShadeMIF%3e%7ball%7d%2fspecificationsProductType%3demulsions%2ffeaturesBrand%3dDulux%2f_colour_derive%3e%7borange%7d&fh_refview=lister&ts=1290438435880&isSearch=false
Cinnamon
I think thats the one we have in there at the moment - they all start to look the same after a while, these varying shades of terracotta

Cinnamon
I remember looking at those a few years back when they had a gorgeous forest one in the bedroom of the Big Brother house. They are stunning. I have plain white fitted wardrobes in my bedroom....I wonder.......
