Redwing
Hi I've used these boxes before, they are very easy to clean which is a great bonus the only thing I would say is rather than making vent holes get yourself a small sheet of wire mesh (from Homebase or similar) bend it over and put that over the top of the box rather than using the lid, the box will get too hot with the lid on, if you do use the lid you'll have to cut away the middle part of it and replace with mesh I put sturdy wire mesh over the top of the box and then put my heat lamp straight on to the wire, works a treat. The wire needs to be strong though and the bulb not too close to the edges of the box or close to the bedding below, if the height of the box is less than about 12-14 inches I'd use an electric hen or hang the bulb from a farme above
Falkor
I was thinking the same for next year hatches. I found this on ebay and liked the idea of the vent thingys - not so keen on the light being that close to chicks/bedding. I am in the process of clearing the garage so that I can set up indoor brooder/run but SHHHHHHH - don't tell OH!
