Angie
My girlies are 23/25 wks now and Sass is very red in the face and is crouching when i pick her up, only started to do this this week. Is she likely to start laying now or next month ? Really anxious to get my first eggs as i have had my girls since they were 6/8 wks old. I got an egg this morning, it has to be Sassi as she is so red faced and crouching, even seen her tossing straw about. The other two are getting redder this week too...............I am so thrilled Thought i was going to have to wait till Feb before the little miracle happened . Redwing
What breed are they? Most banties will not lay over winter so it may be spring before you get an egg

Perfectspace
Keep hoping! Sounds to me like you might be lucky.... What breed do you have? We are in exactly the same position as you - we have Light Sussex Bantams at 25 weeks. We had our first egg at the weekend. They couldn't wait til Spring! scarlettohara
My pekin frizzle of about the same age crouched for the first time last week and laid an egg the next day so fingers crossed for you She also has a very red face
Angie
Hi everyone i have a welsummer, an araucana and a frizzle... It is Sassy my welsummer that is the elder and has a lovely red face , squats and is starting to go in and out of the cube through the day more than normal. I really would love an egg now and then, the wait just goes on and on.That is how it feels. They are all very well and coping with the cold weather far better than i imagined. Frazzle is my darling and she jumps up on my chair and boks at me till i pick her up, she loves a quick cuddle and doesn't venture far from me in the wir...she is starting to get red wattles and combs, while Henny Penny the araucana has a tiny comb that is getting pink, she likes her chest stroking rather than being picked up . They all have their individual characters and i am very attatched to them. ........It would still be nice to have an egg or two. My daughter has taken sympathy on me and given me some of her precious fresh eggs.

Jools
It depends on the breed/strain and when they were hatched. I hatch mid May - early June to guarantee some winter eggs in their first laying season and my bantams don't let me down. My LF seem a bit slower off the mark though - another feather in the cap of bantams.

Janty
Congratulations on the egg. My mini Welsummers are the only ones who have laid during the Winter.
