PeckyBeak
Our garden backs onto a dyke and we frequently have herons fishing there and flying over. I know that they normally eat fish, but yesterday one seemed to be flying lower and taking an interest in the girls. The girls weren't particulally bothered, but then today one came the lowest I have ever seen one in flight and the girls fled and dived for cover. The dyke is frozen over so the heron is probably short of food, does anyone know if herons could be a danger to my girls?
Gertie
I've had problems with a heron & my pond. Whilst I was reading about ways to repel them I did come across articles that said they could adapt their diet to include amongst other things...birds. I have no idea if they would take a chicken. They look pretty menacing up close though (& beautiful too). This is the link to that article. http://www.ehow.com/i/#article_6569553
sjp
I think adult chickens are safe but chicks or eggs would be at risk from herons
