Henhathnofury
I haven't been well at all in 2010 - so it has felt good to shake off this year. I went out today and my other half cleaned out the chickens while I watched. Couldn't resist putting my Speckled Sussex on my lap to have a chat. She really does respond when you talk to her - that sort of burbling, perky-eyed chatter that chickens engage in. Then (of course) I sang her a little soft song, while my OH just laughed at me. But slowly she settled down and sat there, heavy and frowsy in my lap. She's such a beautiful little lump but came to us as a proper little madam. As I said, it has been a tough year. But sitting there in the garden at the edge of my pond - I was overwhelmed by the most extraordinary feeling of contentment. Of peace. I hope for all you lovely chicken people that 2011 is a fine and bright one. It's great to start fresh. I really enjoy the smiles and reassurance I get from this forum. It also restores my faith in human nature as a kind and wise one.
madchickenlady
I know exactly what you mean. Some days all I need to feel right with the world is five minutes outside pottering with the hens

Sageandonion
Sorry to hear you haven't been well, hope 2011 is a better year for you. Glad to hear your hens are such a comfort. I haven't got mine yet, soon hopefully, but it sounds like they're a great stress reliever and should be prescribed on the NHS
jennydavies
I love being out in the garden just as it's getting light in the mornings, singing little songs and chatting away to our girlies. It's so calm and peaceful and hearing their happy little clucks and meeps as I clean the henhouse for them is sheer contentment. They come and inspect my cleaning and they make me laugh with their funny little antics. They are happy to let me watch as they lay and I bless their little hearts for all the excertion they have to put into giving us their precious eggs. They are my little angels
