Clur
I've been doing some volunteer work and the charity I'm working with has a spare place for any runners interested in doing the London Marathon. Is anyone here interested? It would cost £300 to secure the place (the price the charity had to pay for it in the first place), then sponsorship. Many charities are asking for minimum sponsorship of £2k, but we have no such restrictions though it would be good to get an idea of how much sponsorship/money people can raise. Here's hoping someone is interested - it's a fab charity: http://www.dyslexic.org.uk/
sparkysmum
Waaaaaaaaaay out of my league but I'm sure it will be snapped up real soon. A great charity too!
Ain't Nobody Here
And there was me thinking you'd snapped it up, Sparkysmum . I hope someone takes you up on the offer . (It's waaaaaay out of my league too .)
Clur
I'd love for someone to take it up or else the DRT will be out of pocket Feel free to ask your friends and family. I would take it up myself but if I do more than a brisk walk I turn purple and my flab resembles a one-woman Mexican wave.....
Chucky Mama
Someone is sure to take it up. Spare places are as rare as hen's teeth. Have you mentioned it on Facebook? I am tempted but not that tempted My toenails have only just grown back after doing my first marathon last year - not something I ever plan to do again. Clur
Well done Chucky Mama, you've served your time! What a great achievement I've posted about this on my Facebook page and some interest but mostly from people who's New Year's resolution is to get fit and who have never run (my brother). I'm waiting for some more serious contenders
Dizzy-Deb
OMG I WOULD so love a place at the London Marathon. I was too late to try and enter the ballot. My friend who started running with last year as beginners together has managed to get a golden ticket place for a local hospice. Would so be fantastic if i could get a place and join her and we could encourage each other round the route. Or prop each other up I did look at some golden ticket places but knew realistically wouldnt be able to raise the £2K + sponsorship which most seem to ask. Its so hard to get any kind of sponsorship in todays economy. What kind of sponsorship are they hoping to get do you think ? In understand the charities want to get as much as possible. I am really really interested in this place. xxx

I know it's tough in this economy and some of the other runners are looking at doing coffee mornings and the like to help them reach their target. Personally I think anything over the £300 that you'd initially pay, would be going to a fantastic cause!

Dizzy-Deb
Sadly, I have had to withdraw from going in for this due to various reasons. Am hoping someone else can do this ??? xx
Chucky Mama
Hard luck DD, maybe some other time It is quite a commitment. I did 400 odd miles of training and so many people don't make it to the start line. Clur I know someone who is part of a running club. I have just sent her a text to see if she knows of anyone who needs a place
