Healthy Eating Chat Part 2

Recommended Posts

I'm a bit brassed off with Weigh"Ooops, word censored!"chers at the mo. Past 2 weeks it's been weigh & go. Grrrrr, I hate that. I'm paying just to be weighed. I like my motivational talks! I'm starting to get to that bored point now. I might have a weeks switch to Slimming World. I really wish they still did Scottish Slimmers round here - it was fab. I have all the books from years ago, but all classes are in Scotland. Oh dee dums. At least I lost weight after eating my Easter egg - I'm 2lbs down today! :D

Teabag - are you doing the Harcombe?

Teabag - are you doing the Harcombe? Emma.x

No, I didn't feel it was for me, although there is an overlap in some useful principles.

I did find the Harcombe topic interesting, and applaud the success of Egluntyne 8) and others who have made it work for them. but wanted to get back on track on this topic.

I'm deliberately not "on a diet" but have embraced healthy but enjoyable eating. I knew all the facts about food and lifestyle, but hadn't really stopped to look at what I could do differently and apply this in a positive and regular manner until this year. I'm actually enjoying it!

Just really addressing a couple of things instead of just thinking "oh, I know that", have really made a difference. I'll post a bit more later. :)

How frustrating about the classes Emma!

I've been wondering how Griffin is, having just seen you posting again after your illness. Are you feeling better and up to the healthy eating topic again?

Awww thank you for thinking of me. I think because it was the second really hard wallop to the head I'd had in a few months my poor old brain decided to take time out to heal  My arm got better but the spaced-out-ness remained and it turned out it wasn't because of the painkillers, it was concussion from where I'd banged my head after leaving the doctors surgery  I'm feeling a lot better now though. I'd fallen off the WW wagon, hadn't tracked at all, but was still hovering around the same weight. I think I'll go to next weeks meeting, be really really good until my holiday at the end of May and then be a paragon of virtue after my hols. It would be easy to just give up now, I might've lost two dress sizes but there's still a long way to go!

Good idea CCR, I'll join you! Do enlighten me, I thought you reached your target, or was that a target along the way, not the end result target? You've done so well!

My time frame has been vague, "by end of year" and "by August", so it will be good to focus on the next 2 months.

One tip that I picked up on the Flylady "decluttering" website (see topic in Green Thinking) is that I always carry around bottles of water. Yes, I knew I should make myself drink water, but this action really makes me do it easily.

I look forward to using my prepared (tap water) bottles, and this has stopped me grazing or making tea & coffee all day (not given up, just broken a pattern).

Just seeing the bottles wherever I go keeps me on track somehow, I think I've often mistaken thirst and tiredness for hunger, and snacked out of habit.

So, Mayday resolution it is, thanks Clash, I needed that next step clarified, anyone else? :D

Do enlighten me, I thought you reached your target, or was that a target along the way, not the end result target?

I reached my Weight Watchers target (end result) in October 2010. The target for all Weight Watchers members is to get your BMI (Body Mass Index) between 20BMI - 25BMI (mine is 25). I'm now "maintaining" my target weight.

My "Mayday Resolution" (a short term version of a New Years resolution) is to lose 1lb per week for 7 weeks so that I'll be around half a stone lighter for my holidays at the end of June when diet & exercise will not be adhered too !!!! and I should come back from holiday somewhere near my target weight (hopefully).

My proper new years resolution is currently still on track, "not to go over my target weight (13st.6lb) this year".

If you stay at target weight (maintaining) with Weight Watchers for one year, you get awarded a Gold Star for your keyring, which sadly is my current motivation.

 Brilliant, and thanks for explaining, your plan sounds really good.

A high blood pressure alert was one of my main motivations for getting started this year, it must pay off to get fitter and healthier now.

Do you find you feel better for what you've achieved, I'm sure it must have improved your health outlook? :D

I've got bored with Weight Watchers & brassed off with all the weigh & go's of my leader. grrrrr - I'm paying for support & a talk! So I have decided that after my little caravan holiday I'm going Slimming World.

Emma.x

I found SW really easy to follow Emma with only little changes to my diet. Admittedly I didn't have a huge amount to lose but still needed to lose weight. I'm also still at my target. We had a stand in consultant last week and she has lost 7 stone since May last year following the extra easy plan.

Good luck Clash City Rocker (you're so focused!) and Teabag with your May Day resolution. I've lost 1.5 stone following (on my own) Slimming World, and want to lose the same again - have struggled this past week with Bank Hols and ES (20) birthday......however am back on track and waiting for those losses to happen!

Mayday Resolution - Week One

Up 2lb -

A combination of VIP Hospitality at Bazza Manilow @ O2(Thurs),

a night on the beer watching Roy Walker @ E4's "Udderbelly Festival" on the Southbank(Fri)

and a "Massive" Wolves victory over W*st Br*m yesterday.

Now got 9lb to lose in six weeks

Well done Cathy, it's all about moving in the right direction isn't it? I agree, clotjhing is a good indicator. I personally don't have a target item as it doesn't motivate me, just upsets me. How many items have I bought something thinking "well it's a bit tight but will be fine when....", only to find that I never do get to wear it,so I'm not doing that again, maybe I'm just not good with specific targets.

Clash, I'm right there with you, although my downfall was biscuits for visitors. I need to learn how to do that one, make them take the leftovers with them?

But, you've had a great time, what an amazing 3 days, let's celebrate that, 2lbs is just a blip. Forget this week and weigh ourselves properly next week!

So, onto week two. I'm starting by planning some healthy fruit and veg snacks to eat in between meals. Plus carrying my water bottle everywhere! :D

I was chuffed to have only gained 5 lb while off the wagon. Lost 3.5 lbs this week through trying hard :D Only one more weigh in until my holiday but I intend to enjoy all the food & drink while I'm away so will no doubt wreck all my good work

But imagine if you hadn't lost the weight though? Have a fab holiday, you can rectiify when you get back. :D

Half a pound lost this week. Better than nothing  I've been clothes shopping and now have lots of pretty dresses for my holiday. Size 18 this year as opposed to the size 22 I wore this time last year :D Still a heffalump but less like John McCrirrick in drag than last year

I've struggled with clothes shopping. I bought a couple of new suits for work after 6 months of weight loss.

3 or 4 month later they were too big and I had to buy 2 more suits, not cheap.

I'm loathed to throw them away so I've put them into the loft..........just in case !!!!!!!

Well done Griffin & Clash City Rocker :clap:

Scary thought "John McCrirrick in drag " "Ooops, word censored!"oby can look like that :shock:

I hate clothes shopping, at the moment I'm getting a few bits off Ebay just to keep me going and it's cheap.

 That's terrific news Griffin and Clash.

I'm struggling to even maintain, let alone make progress this month. However, this happened before, so I'm hoping to suddenly lurch under the next half stone mark. I am managing to keep to a good routine of healthy eating and exercise.

The best news is that my blood pressure is now normal. It was mega high in the autumn, and still a bit too high before I lost the half stone. Much healthier, that's the main thing. :D
