I've been getting 3 almost every day from 6 hens so I'm doing quite well .

Well done Egluntyne's girls, I am getting 1 or 2 from 6 all hybrids and 4 are in their first winter.

I had 5 today. My younger girls now nearly 2 years old have laid all through their second winter. they seem to have moulted and regrown some feathers but have carried on laying. My original hens stopped in their second winter and looked very handsome by the spring because they had fully regrown their feathers and had grown larger too. I had a white star that didn't stop for 18 months then sadly she had a prolapse and died. I am glad of the eggs but wish the girls would take a break for their own sake, although they seem happy enough.

 

My 2 older ladies are now 4 years old and I have had no eggs from them since October.

Mine are cranking up the numbers again as well - in fact tomorrow OH has me down for lemon curd making, we have so many!

- the two old girls shut up shop in about October, but the Bluebelle and Copper Maran went on till Christmas Day, when they stopped. Now the Bluebelle is moulting. The Maran started again about ten days ago, and I've been getting one every other day or sometimes every day - wouldn't mind, but I am seeing someone (a client) on Tuesday who has been promised eggs for ages; it's always the wrong time, or I am not expecting to see him, and it's now a running joke that I don't really have chickens, so I really want to have six to present to him!

Seven eggs yesterday. Two were from the Itsa Bitsa's crosses and both were green, one a pale green and the other a darker green.

MMMMmmmm I need to have words with my girls. Not one egg from nine since before Christmas. I don't think I told them the snow has gone!
