Henslaved
Just a few pics of the guineas FR (at last) with the hens. Not sure what's going on in the last pic, I think when the guineas are about to be pecked they seem to try and avoid it by getting closer to the hens and running underneath them . They really are comical to watch and loud . I also think that I have the ultimate bribe for getting them back in their run................GRAPES!!!! They run hell for leather after them, they even beat the hens . Throw a few in the right direction then a couple into the run . Just hope they don't get wise to my tricks
Gertie
They are so pretty! They almost look like something tropical has landed in your garden! Glad they all get on & thanks for the lovely pics. Happy you found a way to get them back in again.
Lavenders_Blue
Aww the guineas are so pretty, and such a funny shape. In the last photo the one on the right looks a bit like a feathery tortoise on legs Exactly how loud are they? Anti social loud? And do they need to have their wings clipped? C&T
Love Guineas. Lived on a farm for a while, where there was a flock of "wild" guineas that ran about the place, but based their lives in the farm buildings when they weren't wondering down the lane or annoying the sheep in the fields! Lovely, inquisitive things (was dangerous to leave the front or back door open - they would come in the house and the mess was worse than chooks!!). Real characters!! But noisy as anything! Good luck with them!!
Henslaved
Aww the guineas are so pretty, and such a funny shape. In the last photo the one on the right looks a bit like a feathery tortoise on legs Exactly how loud are they? Anti social loud? And do they need to have their wings clipped? They are quite loud, I would look it up on youtube and turn the volume up to full, then times that by 10 . I personally find their alarm call "anti-social loud" but when they're settled and just going about their business they sound really cute a bit like the noise that little chicks make . As for wing clipping, if you dont want them to be able to fly then yes you must clip their wings . I would never clip a birds wings for two reasons: if they're not happy living where they are then they are free to leave; they may need to fly to avoid predators. The latter being the only reason that these two survived, the fox got every one of the hens that they formerly lived with . See what you mean about the tortoise on legs though

gongladosh
I'm still chuckling from the earlier photo of Ruby's face!
Henslaved
The expression on her little face says it all. Ruby doesn't seem to like them very much. Greta is top hen and doesn't seem to mind them as long as they know their place . I think maybe Ruby sees them as a threat to her position, can't see why though as neither of them have made any challenges and seem very submissive. Can't wait to try the eggs when the female starts to lay .
mostin
What absolute darlings , such a lovely shape too. I am very , wish they weren't so loud
Henslaved
They're only loud when alarmed , usually by something that looks new or strange, or if they see a threat flying overhead eg: crow, sparrowhawk. They were all out FR and some repair work was going on at a house and some insulation (rockwool type) was left lying around, the Guinea fowl saw it and OMG you would have thought a fox had got in . I ran round to see what all the noise was about and had to jump up and down on the rockwool to show the Guineas that it wasn't a threat and it was dead (really dead) . Must admit tho, these two have settled down quite a bit since we got them . They do have their moments , but they are mostly noisy when they are out FR and are so comical to watch, in fact thay have renewed my enthusiasm for all fowl and am verging on catching morehens disease . craftyhunnypie
I love Guineas. My sister has them. I like the noise they make - reminds me of shreiking peacocks. They can't half get up high when it's roosting time. Emma.x
