Fabulous film 8) . Really enjoyed it :D .

 

"Stanley Baldwin" looked familiar but I couldn't quite place him. He was Anthony Andrews!

 

Ditto! We had to queue to get out so I watched for the name in the credits . Mum had recognised him but I still think of him as Sebastian - I suppose that was quite a long time ago now!

 

Brillliant film. Mr Firth is excellent. It is so nice to go to a hyped up film and actually agree with all the positive comments rather than just think that the film hasn't lived up to the hype. I watched an interview where he said that a lot of the ideas for the treatment came from his sister who is also a speech therapist. My best mate is a speech therapist and also liked it from the "geeky" point of view!

We are going this morning, wanted to go last weekend, but ED had an all day rehearsal fro her school musical. My YD is 9, and has wanted to see it, she's seen a few historical films, Shadowlands being her favourite so far....not worried about the swearing, she's got a friend (10) who swears like a trooper at school ( I know...shocking really...her Mum is really posh, but effs and blinds like a docker!) I can't wait...If any one lovs Colin Firth, or doubts his acting ability..rent A Single Man...so beautifully acted, and exquisitely shot by Tom Ford too.... :mrgreen:

Just got back from seeing the film at Bluewater. Fantastic film, we laughed and had tears in our eyes. In fact at the end I was so choked up I couldn't talk to my hubby for a few minutes. OH thanked me for taking him as its not something he would have suggested watching. YS thought it was very good too.

 

I thought Colin Firth acted it so well. I remember YS's frustration in attempting to get his words out (why I was so emotional by the end of the film I think :roll: ). Thought Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter also were very good.

 

Would recommend it to everyone.

I agree. Geoffrey Rush's character was very well-rounded and likeable. In fact (and I never thought I'd hear myself say this) I preferred his portrayal of the therapist to Firth's portrayal of the King... :oops:

I'm not sure I preferred it, but it was at least equally as good as Firth's King.....I really feel it's a travesty that he didn't pick up the best supporting actor award...to be fair though I haven't seen the Fighter.We saw the trailer and it wasn't something that really appealed to me or my OH and if I'm honest there's something about Christian Bale that i just don't like...but I really can't quantify why, isn't it strange that sometimes you just take agin....?
