Kylie1007
What do you do with your chickens when you go away? I've asked my neighbours children to come and just close and open their little door to their house at night time and in the morning but I was wondering whether it matters totally whether their door is open at night time if the rest of their coop is secure from foxes? jill the potter
I never close the door to the eglu - even when it was -10 c !!! As long as the run is secure you should be ok
quickcluck
We leave our doors open too as they are safe in the WIR. But we still have a neighbour come in once to top up food and water and to collect any eggs.....
Kylie1007
So it looks like they'll be OK in their run- that's good news - I dont think anything can get underneath the wire as it's bark chips upon gravel which has one of those black sheets under it to stop the weeds coming through! quickcluck
Make sure it's tethered down with run pegs..... for extra security we put half paving slab around too!
Janty
I never shut the eglu or cube doors either. When we go away, I fill all the feeders up so that the food will last the week and the neighbours just have to change the water each day and collect eggs. Saying that we have lovely neighbours and the two daughters love the chickens. Apparently they spend all day snuggling them when we are away. Kylie1007
I've put decking planks around the edge of the run and will put big stones on top, theyre not laying yet so I dont think we need to worry about egg collecting.
