Marriages Flubenvet pellets

Recommended Posts

I think I will try them next time I worm my lot. Last time we only had the 4 ex batts, so wasn't too hard to mix up one lot of food for a week. Today I mixed up 6Kg of pellets with the Flubenvet powder and it took me ages as I had to do it in 2Kg lots as I didn't have a weighing scale that would measure out more than 2Kg or a bowl big enough to put 6Kg in for mixing :?

I've recently completed worming my 3 separate "flocks" wth the Marriages pellets.

We normally feed Smallholder Layers pellets, and I wasn't sure how they would cope with having their food changed all in one go.

We weighed out the feed, allowing 1kg per chook for the seven days. At the end of the seven days, we weighed the food that was left to work out how much had actually been eaten.

It worked really well for my 8 "Garden Girls". I left them shut in their WIR until at least 11 am each day, and put them back in at 4pm. The rest of the time they were free ranging, and they had a small amount of corn each day. They lso had a huge amount of pasta one day because I forgot that they shouldn't really be having too many treats. Anyway. The upshot for these Girls was that they ate an average of 95g per chook per day. This seems reasonable, especialy as only 3 of them are laying at the moment.

For the Breeding flock (1 cock and 3 hens), it was fairly successful. These ate an average of 85g per chook per day. This was a bit less than I expected, but none of the hens was laying, and I don't know how much a cock is meant to eat. They would have eaten more but we had some really bitter weather, and DH gave them extra corn for a few days.

For our Laydees, a group of 4 small hens, we have no idea what happened. They seem to have eaten only about 30g per hen per day. They weren't laying, they also had the extra corn. I'm also wondering if I made a mistake on the initial measuring out - but I know I didn't. Not that big a mistake anyway. I'll be redoing them in a couple of months to see if I get better results next time.

It was much easier to do, and I'll definitely be using it again.

My banties also ate less than usual, but then it was very different from their usual feed. I kept them in the run quite a bit, especially as the weather was rubbish. They had come back into lay but laid less as they didn't eat so much. Now they're back on their regular feed, they are laying again.

I regularly worm them with Panacur* anyway so didn't expect a drastic difference in their health.

Thanks so much for the heads up on these pellets. I ordered some from SPR Centre on Wednesday and they were delivered yesterday  It will be so much easier than trying to get my girls dosed with Flubenvet grapes - that way one always gets too much and another never gets any, it's a right carry on!

I am on day 6 of worming my 8 girls and they have had nothing but their medicated pellets. I am hoping the 6Kg will last them till Monday, it is hard working out how much they will eat in a week.

I'm trying to work out how much it costs to mix it up yourself. I think I paid around £14 with p&p for my tub of Flubenvet, but it apparently will do for 20 hens, so I think I should get one more lot of worming done with the tub I have as I only had 4 hens last time I wormed them, so that works out at 70p per hen. 6Kg of ex batts pellets is about £3, so comes to.....um.....£8.60 I think

Filled up my feeders with the Marriages medicated pellets today and I can't really see any difference to their normal food. Cannot believe it can be this easy!

Looks like I will only use half the bag, going by the amount they usually eat.

Fiona, you mean you wouldn't rather be measuring and stirring and stirring and stirring and stirring :lol:

I'm trying to decide whether it's worth the £11 delivery charge to ship a bag here. My normal stockists will only supply it by the tonne

I think I've almost convinced myself that for convenience it'll be worth it, my lot usually eat a bag in a week, that's a lot of powder to measure and stir, stir, stir, stir

Lucy, who's that ordering from?

SPR Centre, just checked the e-mail again to make sure I hadn't dreamt it. £11 for a 20kg bag.

Eek. Was going to suggest them if it was someone else you'd tried. Does make it very dear but it is sooooo easy. I know when we had a max of twelve chickens I was never convinced that I'd mixed it properly and it also took so long to do. Can you add anything else onto the order before the postage goes up again to make it more worthwhile?
