Tiggy
I hated greens when I was a kid, boiled up toa soggy gray mess but now there is some research that shows lightly cooked/raw greens are very good for you. Broccoli cabbage sprouts all contain powerful ant oxidents that help protect your lungs from inflamation. So all those asthmatics out there need to eat lots
Eggasperated
My Mum used to add something to the water to keep things green (baking soda?) and then boil them forever. We used to smother them in vinegar to make them edible . Nowadays I use a steamer for all my veg and cook them for the minimum time.
Old Speckled Hen
school greens.......would never eat them. My mum used to steam all our veg as long as 50 odd years ago. My vegetables have never got a whiff of boiling water immersion (except spuds). Nothing nicer than a crunchy al dente veg My Grandson refused to eat carrots till he ate mine, I never ever let water near them just oven cook then even the hugest oldest ones are so sweet. Hubby, on the other hand likes sprouts done to death. If we eat sprouts I do him a few steamed to smithereens while the rest of us eat them shredded and stir fried with a little garlic, orange juice and zest. sage
I hated greens as a kid; my Mother boiled them for a month. We still ask every October if the sprouts are on for Xmas. I steam all my veg and 2 year old loves broccoli, green beans the only veg she will not eat are sprouts. She even asks for trees if there in no broccoli on her plate Just it lasts Sage

sage
Ok Just a slight one. In truth she boils veg for at least 20 mins regardless of what if it. If we ever go out with her & my Dad they always send the meal back saying it's not cooked enough All veg has to be a grey/green colour and turn to mush when you stick your folk in. Rhapsody
All veg has to be a grey/green colour and turn to mush when you stick your folk in. Sage Really? Seems a bit harsh- couldnt you just ask for them less cooked?

chickencam
I love my greens, and fortunately so do my family, although I did discover quite by accident last weekend that they like their cauliflower over cooked I hate mushy veg or any kind. One of my children's favourite things is cabbage and gravy, and they love sprouts.
Rhapsody
One of my kids fave meals when younger was Pasta Calabrese - cook Broccoli until tender and mash up. Add Olive oil garlic and fresh grated Parmesan, blooming lovely!
CatieB
My son (6) went to stay with my mum recently and she told him he could have whatever he would like for dinner... he asked for cabbage balls!!! Yes brussel sprouts how cute Whereas my DH hates veg and says its because his mum boiled it forever and as they wouldn't eat it she took to hiding it in their mash! I recently persuaded him to try a piece of cauliflower slightly cooked and he said he never knew it tasted like that...still won't eat it though
