pips_pekins
Hi. I have chosen three different bantam sized chickens for my new cube and WIR, a Rosecomb, an Australorp and an Araucana. My WIR is going to be 12 x 6 and when I am at work they will need to stay in there. I would love another 2 bantams but am worried that there is not enough space. What do think? pips_pekins
Thank you. Just out of interest of course! How many hens might this size hold? I have not even started and can see me developing Morehens disease.
WitchHazel
Hi. I have chosen three different bantam sized chickens for my new cube and WIR, a Rosecomb, an Australorp and an Araucana. Just wanted to say : full size Australorps are FANTASTIC birds, and I'm sure the banty version will be fab.

As a matter if interest, 12 X 6 what? ....Feet? .....Metres or? I am planning and starting to build my own WIR. I am a total novice but I am working on allowing 1 bird per square metre. The area that I have planned is 16 M square so will have plenty of space for my planned 8 normal sized birds. Bantams would need less space I assume. pips_pekins
Hi. It is feet! Wish I had a garden big enough for 12 metres x 6 but we only have a very small plot. I am not sure but think I have read somewhere that LF need 2 square metres each but I have not seen how much small girls need! Good luck with your run. Don't forget to post pictures once you are set up
meezers
Thank you. Just out of interest of course! How many hens might this size hold? I have not even started and can see me developing Morehens disease. For full size birds I allow 10 sq ft per bird, a bantam I would guess maybe 8 sq ft ? If you add perches and platforms you can easily increase the space available to them.
Redwing
I'd put six to eight in that space provided the coop is big enough One word of caution - Rosecombs arent too terribly hardy and are a good bit smaller than your other two chosen birds

I have seen them next to the other breeds so know they are small but they all seemed to get along ok. Thanks Tasha.
