TAJ
So for the last 4 years I have requested chickens/eggs for my birthday. We have order H/E as follows: Barnvelder, English Marans, Buff Orps, Gold silkies, RIR, Buff Sussex - in total 18 eggs, we are collecting them at the weekend, so they will be in the incy Monday. TAJ
Wot no buff rock Well the 'unwanted' one from last year is thriving and I already have 5 lovely girl buff rock/silkie crosses from her, so I think that is enough of those. All the eggs are coming from Wernlas apart from the Marans that are being collected from here: http://www.darkbrowneggs.info/# tomorrow by OH. Tracy Just an edit to add he collected 10, not 6 Maran eggs today - I am not sure I mentioned to him the total coming from Wernlas was 12 oh well the incy will be full - lucky it takes 24 eggs, at least if the hatch rate is low I should still have a few. If the hatch rate is good I might have too many chickens!!
Lewis
Good news! And at least he can't moan Good luck
TAJ
Just a slight problem, 10 eggs, plus 12 eggs, plus 2 of our own = 24 eggs - 'never had so many eggs in the incy at once before' I thought - there is a reason for that, it is a R-COMPro20, funnily it only takes 20 eggs, not 24 Anyway I did get them in, just 6 will not be 'self-turning' - I am assuming as I candle and remove any duds they will all fit in nicely later in the process. Obviously candling the very dark Barnveldor & Maran eggs will be beyond me, but that is only half the eggs. Tracy

TAJ
So after 7 days I candled and I am now down to 20, so all on automatic turning now. I cannot see in the maran's or barnvelders as they are too dark. The black silkies and our own eggs have gone, all others look fine, except one orp may have stopped. TAJ
It has started! So far: 2 * Barnvelders, 1 RIR, 1 Gold Silkie, 1 Buff Orp, 1 Maran, plus a few more pipped - they just need to get on with it! When fluffed up and out of the incy I will add photos. TAJ
The final count: 4 Marans, 2 Buff Orps, 2 RIR, 2 Buff Sussex, 1 Gold Silkie, 2 Barnvelders. The ones that didn't make it: 1 buff orp & 2 blackie silkie eggs never developed, 3 Marans never developed and three developed, but dead in sheel (within the the last week I think ). So 9/12 from the Wernlas eggs, but only 4/10 from the Marans - as long as at least one is a girl from the Marans I will be happy, though at least a couple were born with rather large combs. Tracy Photo session tonight I think
Lewis
Congrats! Shame about the silkie but still a good hatch considering its still quite early! Look forward to the photos
TAJ
I will get round to pics - sadly one died today (see my comments on the Eco Glow thread), I have left the Eco Glow for them to use, but also added the heat lamp - they all seem happier with that and feel warmer. TAJ
The 1st pictures at 2 days old - sorry some are out of focus - I was using macro, but trying to keep chicks in place and taking photos at the same time is rather tricky!
