Jen&Rog
At this time of year I'm normally lamenting the fact that my lawn has turned to mud with the odd sad tuft of green here and there. But I'm thinking of doing away with it all after ANOTHER bout of impacted crop! (our vet confirmed that my elderly hen's crop was stuffed with long grass - where on earth did she find long grass, I wonder?!!) So what do people think - is grass more bad than good? I always thought it made their yolks yellow... so can I keep them happily on, er, mud? (Or bark chippings?) Jennie
Redwing
My lot live in runs with no grass. I give them grass but chop it roughly wth scissors first
Chucky Mama
Gosh that does sound unlucky. Mine graze like goats on our lawn all day every day and dare I say we have never had a problem. I don't really know what to suggest, how are they getting hold of this grass You don't have a 'helpful' neighbour do you?
keyhole kate
Since trashing my garden my lot have been FR on Mud they seem perfectly happy they now dig holes for me to fall into in the dark I agree with chucky mama I suspect they are being fed grass by someone who thinks they are doing a good deed
coco
My lot quite happily live on woodchip, ther isn't a blade of grass in sight. I give them greens a few times a week.
oneyolktoanother
our grass went witin 3 weeks of having our chooks but it was'nt that good a lawn, when our chook had impacted crop the vet though ours was grass.
BocBoc
Our grass is quickly disappearing but the chooks don't seem to mind. They eat what grass they can but I give them spinach and vegtable peelings pretty much everyday in their treat bowl. They are currently on woodchips and happily forage in their run
