Falkor
Wow - he really is lovely My little man has stepped up the noise slightly in the last week or so but Spring is upon us so to be expected. As ever remember to keep the ventilation clear on the eglu if covering it up.
scarlettohara
Yes I will - do you think keep the gap at the back clear or the front top ?
Chortle Chook
Your broody coop looks lovely and cosy. I wouldn't despair over the noise just yet. Do give him a week at least to settle down. Crowing is a lot to do with establishing a territory, hence the early morning crows and little Freckles will be feeling very anxious in his new territory for a bit. Also it never hurts to remember that the key to assertiveness (according to all the training I have received) is to recognised that you have a right to do things (i.e. have a cockerel) and others have a right to tell you how they feel about that. In other words, recognise that your neighbours can tell you if it concerns them and then you can do something about it. If they say nothing then you don't really need to worry. I know this is an ideal but with us all living so close to one another it is almost impossible not to offend someone by doing or saying something at some point, so it is probably best not to anticipate doing so or we'd all be petrified into scarcely living at all. Old Speckled Hen
Oh he is lovely I think it's wonderful to have a cockerel to comlpete the flock. My hens have changed since Flash came and even the nastiest top chook is behaving herself. Mind you....I caught him treading her this morning and he had her squashed right down with her head in his beak vice grip. She just shook herself afterwards and went on cropping the grass....didn't even ask for a cigarette When I move I will build myself a stone hen house so that NO sound comes from it at 3 O'Clock in the morning. pips_pekins
He is very handsome. Really pleased to hear last night went well. You shouldn't feel mean. Having seen your girls and how you are with them I know that if you can keep him he will be a very lucky boy Keeping my fingers crossed for more peaceful nights. I am sure it will get easier as you both get used to it. X
