tracyann
Hi all, Have been doing a daily poo pick in my henhouse, but have started to get a slight build up on the perches. The perches are removable and easy to take out and clean, but are there any products anyone can recommend to use to be able to clean them properly and also to disinfect the metal tray under them. Also can any recommend any dust baths and materials to use within one?
Lavenders_Blue
Poultry Shield is brilliant, as the name suggests it's a disinfectant specifically for use in poultry housing. It also loosens organic matter (or poo as the rest of us call it ) so you can spray it on your perches and scrub with a brush or get a s"Ooops, word censored!"er to remove the muck. In a spray bottle you can also spray it on the surfaces of the coop to kill viruses, bacteria etc. Just spray and leave it to dry, you don't need to rinse. For a dustbath, you can use a cat litter tray, garden trug or similar filled with garden soil, play sand, topsoil etc. Be aware though that you need to keep it somewhere covered or else keep a very close eye on the weather (not easy!) as if they get waterlogged it's very difficult to dry the soil out again. If you don't have a covered area you could consider something like THIS which can be left out all the time and keeps the dustbath nice and dry. I have this and think it's brilliant. chuckmum6
Ohhh, that is a pretty good price too Lavenders_Blue!!! My girl have trugs in their run, but also really deep ones under a big tree which acts like a brolly, the ground is always dry. But I do like that wooden one. TheFeatheredFiend
We've been using Poop-off with our parrots for years. It's a little expensive but you only need a tiny bit and it REALLY works for removing dried on crusty bird poop.
