Sam
Hello. My WIR has been complete for a while now... minus a roof It's been raining heavily today and yesterday, and the wir is a giant mud bath :( They have their eglu run + winter shade to stay in the dry, but the rest of the wir is terrible. Would it be okay to have a roof that is not clear? I know clear corrugated roofing is the best option, but to cover my run it would be quite expensive. Would felt be okay? The WIR is against the garage so basically only 3 sides will be getting light, and this is my main concern if I do get something like felt, or black corrugated roofing, that not much light will get through. Whats your thoughts? Is clear roofing worth the extra? I don't want to get felt and then feel it's too dark Thanks
rossco
i put a felt roof on mine and its fine its bout £30 pound a roll of felt and £20 a sheet of ply iam a felt roofer my self if you measure your run and add 2inch all the way round you could have it made up at a roofers yard and delivered to you and plonk it straight on im in leicester but i used to work for central roofing in northamton give them a ring ask for paul he will look after you say ross put you on to him just an idea
Ain't Nobody Here
I used the slimline type corrugated plastic and it didn't cost too much. They had a special offer on at B&Q when I bought mine (5 for 4). Might be worth shopping around.
Redwing
It would probably be the cheapest option to use the clear corrugated roofing, mine was about £7-8 a panel Roofing felt can provide a home for red mites but this possibility is reduced if its not actually the roof on a coop so on a run it is less risky After just having a run built with an Onduline roof I am a bit of a convert, it makes a really super roof but you are right it makes the run quite dark, if your run faces a direction where it gets direct light most of the day it would be fine though
Aunty e
My onduline roof is very dark and leaks. Am considering replacing it in the summer (when I can comfortably get up ladders again) with the clear corrugated stuff from Wickes. Run is a bit of a mudbath at the moment. Sam
Right, just measured and its 2.5m x 4.8m, which is 12m^2. So going by Wickes it would cost £3.50 per M. So 12x£3.50 is £42. Does that price sound about right? Obviously will have to add in the price of supporting wood, nails etc. Really want a clear roof, don't want to do Onduline to find out it leaks. rossco
if you want a clear roof that doesnt leak then get twin wall you can get it cut to the exact size with no joints if your screwing it make sure you use rubber washers the twin wall sheets dont fade in the sun profile 3 corrugated sheets break easy to! roofing felt is ok if its torched on not nailed on like they do at b&q nothing can get under if torched. cheap is not always best

Sam
AHHH so confused now! Been reading online and now have the same amount of pros & cons for each Both seem to cost the same amount, so it's just the durability and the construction that I'll need to take into consideration. Plum
Got our corrugated plastic roof from B&Q 10 ft lengths and cut it down. It was about £10 a sheet maybe . Although we put it on upside down it hasn't leaked even with some water getting in the overlap and freezing/defrosting. We did follow the instructions for use by making oversize holes and using the washers and cups for over the screws. This lets the air escape when heated by sun and allows for expansion in summer. Desperately looking for some wood to touch
