Asbo-Hen has gone missing

Recommended Posts

Well Ruby who was sent to my friend's for 2 weeks to stop her bullying my poor new Silkie and Wyandotte, has done a runner and has been missing for 2 days. My friend called me last night to tell me- she put it off for 2 days while she put notices on lamposts, notified the vet, petshop etc, hoping to find her before she had to tell me.

I have tried the local animal sanctuary and the RSPCA home, but to no avail. Most worryingly of all, my friend has had a fox visit her garden. Ruby had been free ranging in her garden out of their WIR while she boxed up her own silkies whom she had decided to sell, and while she was helping the new buyer to put them in his car, Ruby flew/jumped/ran/squeezed through/was eaten or something, as she was not in the garden when she got back.

I am very sad today.

Yes, my friend does feel awful, although I have tried to console her - she was doing me a favour, it just went wrong. I am off to the Police station today, just in case someone has found her and notified them, also putting notices in all the vets, pet shops etc. I think there are some allotments not far from my friend's too, so I may go and look down there in case anyone keeps chooks.

I do fear it may have been a fox though. :(

What an awful thing to have happened  your friend must feel terrible. I would go down the Miss Marple route and go out looking for a trail of feathers, droppings and keep your ears open for chicken noises. At night I would also be out with a torch and look up into trees (they can roost quite high when they have to).

I once had a chook also called Ruby, she only went a.w.o.l. for a night tho and was back at 10am the next morning squawking to be let in the run to lay an egg.

Hope she turns up safe  .

Thanks Henslaved, but she has been missing about 4 days now so the trail has gone cold. I wont give up trying every avenue though, her only hope is if someone has found her and is keeping her and trying to find me! Unfortunately she is a very bonny large Welsummer with beautiful glossy feathers the colour of conkers, she really is in her prime, and there may be some unscrupulous hen owners that may want to keep her, or consider her a 'Chicken of Fate'.

There are also some dodgy flats not far away, and I am trying not to think that she has become someone's chicken dinner  - there is a recession on!

Hope you find her. You never know - My Campine cross Gladys Pugh went awol and was gone a month. We searched everywhere for her with no luck and assumed the fox had got her. 1 month later while we were putting up a new shed, the dog suddenly raced down the garden followed by much squarking. There was Gladys large as life. We managed to catch her and amazingly she had suffered no ill effects except for loking a bit thinner. :D
