Eldest son is doing GCSE Art, and has "colour and movement as a title.

We are building a tree from driftwood , in the back yard. It's huge!!, and we're going to hang coloured ??? from it etc.

Ideas please, talented, imaginary ones, please!!!

I'd hang loads of strips of fabric from it. Perhaps one colour but use tones and shades and textures.

 

Or wheels of all sorts

What about those spiral thingys that twist in the breeze and look as if they are going up and down? If you could get them with a different colour on each side (or buy the metallic ones and paint them)?

We've(he's) got to hand make it, so............

we're going beachcombing, and will then drill/wrap, hang somehow, all the the beautiful found objects, onto said tree. Photos to follow.

Currently, he's binding the "branches" we've grafted on with garden twine.

Ah, handmade. Spirals could be made by binding twigs together, or straw - if you search for them on ebay there are quite a few made out of natural materials that he may be able to copy - just thinking they will give lots of movement.

what about making them out of coke cans - do you remember Twister with helen Hunt in it?

they "made dorothy fly" by cutting out loads of circles from cans and twisting them like a windmill

All change!!

Well, not all, it's still a tree, but is now going to be sprayed white(messy), and then have shards of broken mirror stuck to it, and these will be grouted in with a thin grout, wiped away from the mirrors. This will then mean the viewer becomes the "colour and movement" as requested by the gcse..... Got it??? Took me a while, all a bit installation/tracey emin for me!!

They all sound lovely. You could make the fishes out of plastic - maybe carrier bags? How about some sound - wind chimes?

Just a suggestion, but he may want to look at the work of Candace Bahouth. I saw her stuff at an exhibition in Bath a few years ago and really liked it.

tree is together, and he's started binding it. I wont help, as it's his art piece, and this weekend we were windsurfing all weekend(well, he was!)
