poppy ben grace
hi my new arrived yesterday and is fab... then my poor long suffering oh drove me to pick up 3 beautiful little ex batt poppets who are for now living in my old wooden house with run, while my old girls have the cube within the wir. am planning to put them all together after a few weeks so they are getting to know each other through the wire at mo. I would like to urge any of you out there who are considering a few more hens to consider the ex batts , they really do need us to stand in the gap for them and offer them a chance of a half decent existence before they die. Patricia W
I agree. I've got 4 left of the 7 I originally had and they are beautifully feathered now and each lay a lovely brown egg, more or less every day.
enpekt
Nice one, pbg! Bad winter weather has stopped our WIR extension, otherwise PeckyBeak would have rescued some more Ex-Bats from Falkor. Our three EBs have nearly re-fledged and one has about stopped laying, but they're here for as long as they want to be. And so much fun! Snoxy
Our 5 ex batts have all feathered up beautifully apart from one...bless her...she is the friendliest and lays eggs for definite Some of them have red faces too I ADORE MY EX BATTS AND WISH I HAD RESCUED SOME SOONER I started free ranging my ex batts with my 15 other girls two weeks ago...absolutely no squabbles They still choose to sleep in the Eglu rather than the shed with the other girls but it is probably just a matter of time
Barkisland
I agree I got mine just over two years ago and only have one left at the moment, having lost Flo a couple of weeks ago. My remaining ex batt, Gerty, is even laying quite regularly, although I tell her she doesn't need to. I have my name down for 3 more from the next Haslingden rescue on 16th April

sparkysmum
You'll find lots of ex batt owners on here. Boris our original ex batt is about 4 yrs old now. Much loved. Thankfully she seems to have given up laying although she still sits in the nesting box from time to time. Enjoy them. Alli xx
Miss Millies Chicken
I was a bit apprehensive about having ex bats but took the plunge and had 3 from the BHWT on the 16th Feb. I am amazed at how quickly they are adjusting to normal chook life. The first day they just huddled together to scared to blink. I had to crawl along a 3 metre classic run in the dark to put them to bed for the first two nights. Now nearly two weeks later they are dust bathing, eating worms and come running to the rattle of the meal worm tub One of the hens was a bit of a bully but this has abatted since they started to free range. Haven't decided on names yet.

I am glad that they are settling in nicely Was great to meet you yesterday just such a pity about the rain! Although I am sure we could have chatted chook all day if the sun had of been out! I started free ranging my ex batts with my 15 other girls two weeks ago...absolutely no squabbles They still choose to sleep in the Eglu rather than the shed with the other girls but it is probably just a matter of time No squabbles is GREAT news Snoxy I am sure they will get the idea sooner or later and tootle off to the shed. When I say sooner or later ........Necky, one of my keeper exbatt will still squeeze herself into the intro house if she gets the chance, she is meant to have been living in the since August!!
