Shutter Island... not happy about ending *Spoiler Alert*

Recommended Posts

Hi has anyone seen Shutter Island? with Leonardo DeCaprio?

We watched at the weekend and Its one of those films where it leaves you wondering. Well it did for me anyway! My OH is quite content that he was insane but I am not!! any thoughts!!??

I do love those type of films though! I remember I had to watch Vanilla Sky twice just to find out when his dream started. And as for Inception....... I dont know if I will watch that. It doesnt take a lot to confuse me!

I think I am definatley going to watch it again.

I have just read a great explanation to the whole film on screenrant and how its explained there makes sense. I love pondering over bits again and seeing (ah yes!) moments where it starts to sink in. My family think I'm a bit mad and dont have to watch again, but I need to see what the Director meant us to see in films and not just think oh that was a bit strange?!

I watched it with MIL who asks questions throughout any film that we watch with her. I said it was a mistake watching it with her as I have no idea what it was all about :?

:lol::lol:

Oh I know, I dont like it if people get up for a wee, or make a cup of tea during a good film, never mind asking questions!, you can miss something so vital to the story in a flash, especially with this type of film.......You too will have to watch it again!! It throws up so many questions and its hard to make sense of any of them until the films ended!

I think he must have been insane in the main, but chose to get lobotomised at the end because he'd rather not live with himself realising he was a murderer. So mainly insane but sane at the end. Very sad really.

I saw Memento this week too and thought that a great film - another one you have to watch carefully all the way through.

:?:?

HE was a murderer?? :?:? I thought he was on Shutter Island because he couldn't cope with the fact that his mad wife had murdered their children and that he chose to have the lobotomy because he couldn't cope with the grief??!!

Think I'd better watch it again too.

Love that film! Such an original idea and very well shot.

I've seen Inception too, and really enjoyed that, but not too sure about the ending. Was it? Wasn't it? Hmmm

Not seen Shutter Island, so will have a look and see what I make of it.

Memento is a really odd film and took me quite a while before I stopped going. "what the 'eck is going on????"

I watched Incecption with my son (16) who was able to explain bits to me but then pointed out some errors about the concept. Can't remember what they were now but they made sense when DS went through them with me!

Maybe I had better give Shutter Island a go now!

I had to read one of those online explanations after I'd seen this as I just didn't get it, and it really annoyed me!

I accepted the explanation that he'd killed his wife as she'd killed their children, and then went mad, but decided at the end that he didn't want to live with knowing about it. Not exactly the most uplifting film ever, and (for me) had too many holes and inconsistencies! Apparently the book is better, but I'm not inspired enough to seek it out...

No Country for Old Men was an odd ending too - brilliant film but then a Pants ending, left me feeling robbed somehow!

Dawn x

Me too  And I was so looking forward to watching it and loved it until the end :(

Shutter Island - fell asleep after 20 minutes and am so glad now - would have hated the end :P
