The Killing *Spoiler Alert*

Recommended Posts

Has anyone been watching this brilliant Danish series? It is the best thing on television since The Wire and if you enjoyed that I could not recommend this more. I literally hold my breath at times and it is such a beautiful study of grief, gloriously well-acted. If any of you do watch it, who do reckon is the culprit???

I saw the first episode and then missed several without having remembered to record it. I hope it will be re-run. Scandinavian crime stories seem to be v popular at the moment. I have jumped on the bandwagon and have just read several novels set in Norway by Jo Nesbo that were great as well as having read and watched all the Wallander stories.

Yep, I've been watching this too and I absolutely love it! It's very cleverly done and I keep thinking I have it sussed but soon realise that I'm barking up the wrong tree every time. Can't wait for the last 2 episodes on Saturday but at the same time, I don't want it to end!

Yes, I've been watching this and loving it too - after being told about it by two separate people. I can't wait for the denouement (sp?) now they have accused just about every cast member. Surely it has to be someone who hasn't yet been arrested :? . And I was so shocked by what happened in the last episode - I wasn't expecting that

DH loves it too, and, it seems just as it's about to end, there is a lot about it in the newspapers. The Times interviewed the actress who plays Sarah Lund. Apparently they have already filmed a second series and are doing a third :D

I don't know what it is about Scandinavia and crime. I have loved Wallander for ages and watched all incarnations on television. I'm also ploughing through Jo Nesbo's work - I love Harry Hole. Has anybody read anything by Camilla Lackberg?

Glad there are fellow fans - have just waded through Jo Nesbo series and loved Wallander but think this is a cut above the rest by a long chalk....I think the parents are superbly portrayed in their grief. Have various theories but expect them all to be wrong! I gather series 2 and 3 are only 10 hours long each, which is a shame!

It is a shame if the next series are to be shorter, but that may be better in a way, it may mean that there won't be quite so many red herrings. If the police were as incompetent when investigating the murder of one of my family, I would be quite miffed too.

As to who the culprit could be... Assuming it is a man, I think there's only Morten and the mayor who haven't been under suspicion at one time or another. And much as I would love it to be the mayor, I will put my money on Morten.

No it has to be Troel or Theis! but I feel they are wanting us to suspect Vagn. I am sure there will be as many red herrings in the last two programmes as there has been in the series. If it is someone introduced at the last minute I shall be mad!!

Best thing I've watched on tele for a long time but I cannot have a wee, make a drink and get back to the settee in the break!!! and I eat far too much chocolate between 9 and 11 on a saturday night

Plum, my colleague agrees with you - but I cannot believe it would be Theis....I suspect there is more than one person involved..Rie has definitely been cleaning up to protect someone (does she think it is Troels?) and I think Vagn and Frevert have somehow been involved in the earlier death (accidental killing in hit and run???). Theis' past definitely needs to be explored., But I like Troels Hartman ( I even like trying to say his name in a Danish accent  ). Morten has got to be in the frame but I reckon Bremer's adviser is too.....we are having folk over on Saturday night so I won't be able to watch it but I have warned my OH that I shall stay up after they have gone to find out the denouement before I sleep! :D

We love this series :D . It's soooo gripping and like you say, so many twists and turns. My money is on Bremer and I haven't trusted Rie from the start :shameonu: . (Might be because I think she's not good enough for Troels  .)

Ratboy (as we call Vagn) is too obvious but what about his lookalikey who did a runner? It can't be that simple (nothing ever is in this story  ) :? .

The subtitles don't detract at all (and they're lovely and big!)

DH thinks Theis too. And he is behaving pretty suspiciously. Perhaps he isn't Nanna's birth father, as there's quite an age gap between Nanna and the boys. I really don't want it to be Troels, though it could be a massive double bluff. And I've never really trusted Rie either. I'd forgotten about Bremer's sidekick too. It could be anyone! Roll on Saturday night.

Earlier death can't be accidental because of the heart necklace link. Frevert is so anxious and ran away because he knows who went to the flat when he dropped Nanna off in the taxi, so I think he is key to the solution.

Did Meyer reveal who shot him to his wife??

If Theis isn't Nanna's father then it puts another spin on things but wouldn't explain why he would be jealous of Amir, and what about the passport in the basement of the new house with blood on it.

Alih you cannot have anyone over on saturday not after all these weeks. Cancel them!

Another thing why did Frevert not pick Vagn out of the lineup and what about the cancelled loo?

Edited to say Beg pardon it was Amir who did not pick Vagn in the lineup yet they must already know eachother

and can someone stop Lund going into empty dark buildings alone

Aha I had forgotten the heart necklace link...and I cannot fathom the passport thing either. The cancelled loo I reckon is down to Rie - I think she thinks Troels had something to do with the bloodstains and was trying to buy him some time...or is she workingn for Bremer planted by her dad????

I cannot believe it is Theis - he beat up the teacher really badly and has that extraordinary gentleness in his eyes - I think the characters of the parents are so beautifully portrayed - but how did Nanna get from the flat where it looks as though she was beaten to the concrete floor (Theis' basement?) where she was held to the woods via the company car??

There are so many threads it is impossible not to drop at least 10 of them! Who'd be a detective hey?

I would love to cancel Saturday night but it is friends we have not seen in ages and my OH would rebel I am sure. i would like to be sitting in a silent house with lots of wine and chocolate! My main worry now is that once I know the answers I will want to rewatch the whole thing. And I don't have another 20 hours to spare!!

Just finished watching the dvd box set. Bought it bacause of the amazing reviews everywhere and we thought we would watch a couple of episodes on a Saturday night when there wasn't much on the telly.

Well, we ended up having to ration ourselves as we watched at least 1 episode every night, quite often 2! It prompted so much discussion between my OH and me as it is impossible to work out the killer - we were convinced that it was each member of the male cast at one time or another, including the policemen!!!

Fantastic series - I cannot praise it enough. From the grief of the Birk Larssen family, the disintegration of Lund as she becomes obsessed, the political intrigues.......

Just loaned the set to my ED with the warning - do not start watching it until you have the time to devote to it as you will become obsessed!
