Daffodill
Hi. I have just bought 3 new chickens, one is an Amber star and I have noticed that the top part of her beak is shorter than the bottom. Is this normal or a bit of a diformity? she seems to be able to eat ok and is healthy in every other respect.
txswanie
Hi, I have a couple of GR s with short top beaks, got them from Omlet US. Apparently they clip them to stop them pecking the others when they live in commercial housing (ie lots of birds) It freaked me out a little at first, one of them is very short but a year later and they seem to be doing ok, able to eat drink etc. I actually wish they wouldn't do it, the thought makes me ill. Sam
Her beak has probably been trimmed, just like our girl. It grows back apparently, but I think its growing verrry slowly! Some breeders do it to stop pecking at young age, but don't think its necessary. Nothing to worry about Heres a picture I took today - does it look similar? Daffodill
My hen does look like your picture and now I look at the other two more closely their beaks appear slightly shorter too so I think they must have been trimmed poor things -I don't like the sound of it. I hope they do grow back. Thanks for the replies.
Chucky Mama
One of my chickens had a slightly shorter top beak, it didn't grow back but she didn't experience any problems because of it.
