Unsecure chicken perches

Hi all, i have managed to get some stalason for the wir and just wanted to ask a couple of questions before i use it. Is it safe to sprinkle around the run with the girls around or am i best to shut them away(could be difficult!). My run is soil covered with woodchips but needs a top up soon. My main concern is that if i put the stalason down the girls might eat some as they are always scratching and pecking the ground. Is it safe? Please forgive my ignorance and thanks in advance for any feedback. PBG.

I put stalosan down when the girls are free ranging. I sprinkle it through the roof of the run (eglu) and then rake it in to the woodchip. I wouldn't put it down when their in the run because I sprinkle it through the roof they'd probably inhale some of it. But once it's raked over I'm happy to put them back in straight away.

Just the way I do it though!

I have just chucked it around the place, while they were freeranging but they do pop in and out. only thing I dont like is that it turns everything a nasty colour...

Try using BioDri instead then - it has no colour or odour.

I chuck Stalosan around while the girls are about (they usually get out of the way anyway while I'm doing it). It's perfectly safe for them and they don't attempt to eat it anyway .

I also have a WIR - 12x6. Does anyone know how much Stalosan would I need to use per 'treatment'? I have found it for sale in varying sizes (2kb, 8kg, 16kg) and have no concept how long it would last! Can anyone help?

I just use enough to cover the floor,so as its about the same consistency as flour,try to imagine how much of that you would use...a bagful perhaps?

 

I buy the big tubs of it,as it lasts for ages & I can carry on treating the ground throughout the year.

I used to get Stalosan from regency Poultry, but have switched to BioDri as the Stalosan made me sneeze like mad. They last for ages, so great value.

I think my box is 8kg and it lasts me about a year, I reckon. I probably use about 3-4 cupfuls (small drinking glass size) each time I do a big clean out.
