kerryegg
Just wanted to share my news. On friday we added a lovely lurcher to our family of 4 chooks and a deerhound. From the local rescue centre where we originally intended to foster dogs pending re-homing. Anyway Alfie turned up and although less than half the size of our deerhound he is settling in well. House trained, loves food walks and rides in the car and so far has only chewed up my deerhounds sheepskin rug. Left his own which is identical. He said hello to the chooks and they pecked him so all sorted there. Hopefully all will go well...........now all I want is a cube and more hens! The Dogmother
How lovely, we will need pictures of course. We're sometimes up that way, so will let you know next time and perhaps we can meet up for a hound walk...?

kerryegg
Will get husband to load a picture when he has finished sorting out new dog essentials. Dog meeting would be great if anyone is passing by. We have a garden suitable for dogs so would be nice to get together. Alfie is settling in well and seems to be enjoying life. I have never seen a dog eat so fast, is this a lurcher trait? Deerhounds are so much more refined.
The Dogmother
They all differ in rates of eating. generally if they are used to being fed alongside other dogs, they will bolt their food. I'm sure that you know this having had a deerhound, but he will need a raised feed bowl.
kerryegg
Yes thank-you Claret. we always use raised bowls for food and water and since Alfie arrived there's nothing to clean up afterwards. Both asleep now after the morning walk, play and breakfast. We always feed twice a day as I expect do all long dog owners. Wish the weather was better, very cold here and need to clean the eglu. poachedegg
Congratulations - but er photos?
kerryegg
Apologies, still waiting for husband to have the time to load them. Alfie contiunues to settle in and I think our deerhound has finally accepted that he is here for good. They are getting on well but Alfie wants to play all the time despite not being a puppy and our deerhound enjoys sleeping. Luckily the nice weather has enabled them to spend a lot of time outside. Would highly recommend a rescue dog if you have the time and space. Wish we could have more.

The Dogmother
Lovely photos, is that last one the view from your house? Love them both, especially the big fella - I have a soft spot for huge, shaggy hounds.. if only I had a bigger house...

kerryegg
Glad you like my pics. Yes we have a fantastic view of the Black mountains, Hay Bluff one end and a view to the Skirrid the other. Never tire of it even after 40 years. Dogs have enjoyed the last few days but now playing indoors due to rain.
