Gate solution for electric fence

Recommended Posts

my thread about joining electric fencing seems to have disappeared (I blame myself) - anyway, mr beach chick has a possible solution which might be of interest! I might not explain it very well, but he knows what he's doing.

we are going to split our electric fence in 2 and lose the most severely damaged panel, leaving us with 2 separate lengths.

then, he's going to make a timber framed gate, covered in weldmesh (left over from the WIR), hinged onto wooden uprights. each section of electric fence will run from one side of the gate to one side of the WIR where it will meet the weldmesh - to provide the contact for the electrical circuit at the WIR ends.

contact at the gate ends will be made either by also weldmeshing the timber uprights, or by using crocodile clips or similar. the existing battery - leisure one - should provide enough power. we have 2 anyway, one in use and one on charge so even if they run out a bit more quickly it shouldnt be a problem.

the result should be an easy to open gate rather than faffing about with bendy bits of net and falling over poles!

Have tried to visualise this, think I know what you mean - however, will the gate itself be electrified when it is shut? If so that would be a really good solution. Mind you I also have visions of the whole walk-in run electrified if you attach it to the weld mesh, sure that's not what you meant  .

A picture of the finished set up would be good, I'm always looking for a solution to the gate faff.

yes the gate would be electrified and actually so would the whole run!!!

in fact, because each end of my fence is currently attached to the run it already is but weirdly you can still open the door without getting a shock. the other day tho, I was peering and in and got my nose too close and got a real tingle!:lol:

once we get it sorted I will post pictures...
