omlet netting. escapees

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, this morning after recieving the omlet netting I purchased, I spent two and a half hour errecting it around my eglu. I then released my three chicken into it. Within 2 minutes of them being in there Jennifer hen flew over the top of it. She didnt have anything to stand on to aid her flight. Since then all three of them have managed to fly over the top. They are only 20 weeks old and I am not sure what to do! Is having their wings clipped the answer. How do I arrange to get this done. :anxious: Do i need to take them to the vets? I dont really want to have their wings clipped. :anxious:(green eglu)(white chicken) jennifer (white chicken) Clarissa (white chicken) Nigella

Mine can fly out too !!

I must clip mine I think, but having said that they don't do it often. One has escaped twice & I've not seen her do it. But she doesn't go far when she's over !

My other girl only jumps up when she sees me coming with food. She can jump onto the top of it & balance.

I've noticed that the net does sag abit in between posts, so I've run some taut string across the poles & tied the saggy bits up.

In my experience you have to clip wings and make sure the netting is taught, by using guy ropes and pegging down gaps at the bottom, in order for it to be successful at keeping the hens in. If they can find a way to escape, they will!
