New Amber Star chicken needed urgently

Recommended Posts

Hi folks

Unfortunately we were late shutting the chickens in last night and a fox broke in and killed one. :( Normally the dog would have been out with them but he was in with us.

Sadly, it was our 4 year old son's favourite chicken and he's devastated. He is insisting on getting another one but being autistic, the idea of waiting is somewhat alien to him.

We're in Suffolk and google doesn't seem to be a help.

RIP little Amber, you will be missed.

What part of suffolk? theres potters of weybread http://www.onestoppoultryshop.com/index.cfm where we got two of our hens, and were also really nice and helpful, and had a good shop, or http://www.hen-house.co.uk/, although I wasnt too impressed with the second ones living conditions. Theres also anglia poultry. Try http://www.poultry.allotment.org.uk/poultry-suppliers/live-poultry-egg-supplier-england.php for other suffolk suppliers :)

Thanks for that. Potters of Weybread are usually closed on a Thursday but my husband rang them to explain and they say we can go and get a new Amber Star this afternoon :D Now that's what I call service!

We printed son a picture of him cuddling Amber (original name eh? ) taken only yesterday and he's wandering round the house with it.

What's worse is that our neighbour thinks they saw our next door but one neighbours terrier coming out from under our garden gate but she can't remember whether it was last night or the night before. I guess there's no real way of knowing whether it was terrier or fox. :(

Thanks for your help, off to get a new chicken! Hopefully the introductions will go smoothly or we could be swapping one problem for a whole heap of new ones!

We had a lady at Potters, she was lovely and very sympathetic to the little boy who jumped out of the car before anyone else, dragging a carrier behind him that was almost as big as he was!

We got some of our original chickens from them last year but I'd forgotten about it, their birds are in great condition. I took quite a fancy to some Speckledys they had but we don't have room for any more. (Yet! )

Our new Amber Star is a lot smaller than our others, she's only 15 weeks so she's being kept separate for a while as our other girls tried to peck her as soon as they laid eyes on her.

Son is over the moon and has inflicted cuddles on his very bemused new chicken already. She was been christened "Bitey Whitey" so far for obvious reasons!

Will have to post some pics up just as soon as I can figure out how to do it!
