Our_Chooks
Hi all, I had 2 Warrens but 1 died a few months ago. Today I have introduced a new chicken to 'Sharpay' but she just keeps attacking her, will this settle down, if so how long will this take? I have let them both roam freely around the garden but the new chicken just finds a hiding place and stays there, and I will need to put them in their coop later but am slightly worried. Please please can someone help me??? Thankyou
surfer_chicken
We had to do this three weeks ago when my gingernut ranger died leaving Lily, my amber star, lonely. We bought a cuckoo maran, Mildred, to keep her company- leading to very vicious bullying from Lily . Like yours, Mildred would just hide in a corner until being chased out again. At bedtime we thought we might have to keep Mildred in her travel box in the kitchen, but after chasing her out of the eglu a couple of times, Lily finally let her come in and they seem to be absolutely fine at night. We had a stressful few weeks but now they seem to be best buddies . It took ours about two and a half weeks to settle down and they were fine together after dark. My advice would be keep a close eye on them and make sure they have plenty of space to avoid each other and they should be fine in a few weeks. I hope they sort out their issues for you
Mollie333
I can't add much to surfer_chicken's advice, but I'd get a water pistol.. And spray Sharpay when she goes to 'attack' the newbie. It works, and no, it isn't cruel! Good luck!

Duncan08
We intorduced two new ones after being chicken keepers for 1 week. It was so scary, could not believe how horrible they could be to each other. 1 month on, Bluebell the baby is still the but of little spats but she has company now when then have their dustbaths and although the loner we don't feel worried about her. They all have such distinct personalities that you really enjoy each one as an individual. Stick with it! the advice on here works, slowly but surely and they will create their own flock and look after each other.
Our_Chooks
Thankyou soooooo much for your advice I feel alot happier now I was a little worried this morning thinking that I may have been greeted by bloodshed, but they survived the night peacefully, Sharpay seems to want to show her dominance during the day when they are out in the open! Again thankyou my chicken keeper friends
