She has some medicine(anti fungal) and baytril. Will give her the weekend and hope she picks up. At least now with the meds i know she has more of a chance. How is your girl doing today? It's up to you and I'm sure that the vet gave it for a reason, but unless the chook has an infection I (personally) can't see what it's for. I'm not a vet but will happily challenge mine if I feel that they are over-medicating to rack up the fees. Some vets (and I'm not suggesting that this is the case with yours) prescribe antibs when they aren't always strictly necessary. With a fungal problem such as sour crop/thrush etc, the accepted norm is that the last thing needed are antibs, which could inflame the situation by reducing the beneficial bacteria as well as the bad ones. Just think of how women can end up with thrush after a course of antibs. Sour crop is usually easily cleared up with the treatment I always suggest of starving for 24 hours, only water with ACV + probiotic powder, then dried food only thereafter. Feed Bokashi Bran in live yoghurt. If it doesn't start to get better in 36 hours then take it to the vet. poppy ben grace Posted May 8, 2011 Author Share Posted May 8, 2011 hi, about the same really. She is in the nesting box at the moment, dont know if she wants to lay or just resting. At a loss what to do now. Think i will give her another day or so and take her back to the vets. Even worse is my beloved old mare, polly, is being pts tomorrow. She is 30 and has had a wonderful life but the time has come. Wanted to do it while the weather is good and she is enjoying the spring grass... am heartbroken but i owe her so much i dont want her to suffer. My little ex-batt is also much improved too, not sure she's 100% but a gazillion times better than she was, I really feared the worst on Saturday.
