Stedic
Hi all, I've sectioned off an area of our WIR and am ready to rehome another couple of ex-batts. My other girls have rejected their superglug and never really taken to it. I could really do with them using it, as with 7 girls we'll be going through so much water. Do you think its fair to try the new ex-batts on it for a day in the hope that they get the hang of it? I'm thinking that as everything is new they might pick it up a bit faster.....but at the same time, I don't want to deny them water during the rehoming stress if they can't pick it up quickly. The alternative is to remove the Glugs from the older girls and try again with them, but they really struggled last time. Decisions decisions! Egluntyne
You could place it low down so that they can drink from the top of it.
migsy
Or you could just get a gravity water feeder. They are pretty cheap and any chicken will use them.
jimnpaula
If your superglug has nipples on the bottom then your ex batts should get the hang of it quite quickly as it will be similar to what they had inside. Mine took to it very well. P
Stedic
I'd heard they were used to nipple drinkers, and thinking about it the first three ex-batts did try the superglug until we added extra water sources to reduce fighting. I think I'm going to try the existing girls on it for a few days and see how they get on, I suspect they'll refuse to use it but worth a try. If not I'll try the new ex-batts when they arrive but only for a very short time if they struggle. You'd think that with the cumulative power of 8 chicken brains someone will figure it out! Stedic
An update for you all: I HATE CHICKENS! Last summer I tried for two weeks, TWO WEEKS, to get them to use the superglug. I removed all the other water, I prodded the nipples with a stick for hours on end (they tried to drink from the stick or my finger), they clucked for water, drank from puddles and generally exhausted me. Today I screwed a Kroken rail into the area my new ex-batts will be staying in. I put the superglug in to check it could take the weight. All 5 of my girls came up, one by one, and had a drink without any encouragement! In size order too! Sometimes I think I keep chickens, at other times I think they just like having a servant living in their grounds!
