amateurkeeper
Hi everyone, It's been a while since I last came on this forum but we're now a bit concerned for our chickens and I know you all know your stuff and will be able to advise us! We have 10 chickens - 2 gold laced orps (POL), 1 australorp (POL), 2 light sussex (POL last year), 3 ex batts and 2 bantams (POL last year). We have always had at least 8 eggs a day from our ladies; even in the height of winter. However our 2 orps and the australorp have suddently turned incredibly broody, which has co-incided with a lack of eggs for the last few weeks. We are lucky if we only get 4 a day now. We know the ex-batts aren't laying (they have very distinctive speckly/pimpled eggs), which doesn't particulary concern us considering their ages, but we are now worried as to the reason we aren't getting as many eggs anymore. Is it something as simple as their ages, or the weather or could it be something else? Nothing regarding their coop/run/food etc has changed; they are being their normal chicken selves. Any advice is welcomed Thank you!!
Chucky Mama
Have they been Flubenvet wormed within the last 3-4 months?
amateurkeeper
I can honestly say that we have never wormed our chickens, and have never had any problems with them whatsoever. We've checked vents/bottoms etc. and no sign of anything.
Olly
Worming them would be a start. Are they eating a lot of treats, or do they free-range a lot, so that perhaps they're not eating enough pellets? Have you tried 'breaking' the broody hens out of it?
