chipmunks and flubenvet

Recommended Posts

I'm planning on treating my girls with flubenvet. But I have two quick questions...

1. How do I make sure everyone gets the right dose? Or will it be self-dosed on how much they all eat regularly?

2. I have a chipmunk issue. The minute the WIR is open the chipmunks line up to get their share of the pellets. I had hoped that the chickens would defend their territory and food but it seems that they have some sort of peace alliance.

Should I take the food in while they free-range? I had considered this but they often come back to the WIR for a snackette.

thanks everyone! Jane.

They will get the right dose if you administer the powder to the pellets in the ratio advised by the manufacturer. Strictly speaking, when being wormed with Flubenvet, they shouldn't be eating other food, so I would limit free ranging. In reality, I think most of us let them out for some part of the day.

Probably a good idea to remove the food whilst they are ranging, so that the chipmunks don't eat it. Apart from anything else, it is a waste of Flubenvet.

It might be worth you investing in a treadle feeder. I got one a couple of years ago because squirrels were making off with the food, and it has worked well.

You could try adding a little chilli to the mix which apparently doesn't bother birds but discourages squirrels (and presumably chipmunks).

never worked on the bird feeders so I'm guessing it won't work on the chicken food - also worried about raising the temps of my girls in the already hot summer....
