pixelpeeper
Hello all! I bought 2 new POL's last week.... settling in is going *ok*, the usual bickering, but I am wondering if my Pied suffolk is a he! She is big (but that I expected with the breed) and has legs like tree trunks with teeny little spurs on them. Her headgear is a bit more developed than the other pullet, but she has quite a deep throaty voice (no crowing though) and her feathering is more 'extravagant' than the other girls. I know very little about sexing and she is my first pied suffolk so I am not sure if she is typical, or if she is a he! I have attached some pics for those more experienced, if someone wouldn't mind helping...? http://s1115.photobucket.com/albums/k557/pixelpeeping/
pixelpeeper
(apologies for the rubbish pics btw, she is a bit camera shy)
Egluntyne
I think you might be right. The hackle feathers look pointy and the saddle feathers seem to be sweeping across his back. If your neighbours are cheesed off now, they will be even more so in a few weeks if your suspicions are confirmed.
Griffin
My money is on pullet! My Pied Suffolk looked quite boy like for a while too but she definitely wasn't.
percy049
Her feathers are a bit pointy, and he/she looks a bit bigger than my pied suffolk. You'll have to wait and see if you get any eggs!
Redwing
I cant see the pic on my laptop but if I remember correctly a pied Suffolk is a hybrid? They should be sexable at hatch so whilst its not impossible that its a male it is very unlikely A few do sneak through though!
sjp
I think it's a girl if it's pol 16-18 weeks old I've got a speckled sussex cross that I thourght was a boy right up to 19 weeks old when she started to lay her head gear was a lot bigger than her sister's I'd have thorught she'd be crowing by know to
pixelpeeper
Well looks like the jury is out but pullet seems likely! I do hope so - the photos don't do her justice, she is a gorgeous bird and I'd hate to have to part with her. She just looks so 'different' from the others! She just has a bit more presence about her. Yes Egluntyne about the neighbours! Things have quietened so hopefully my neighbour will back off a bit. Now I am just waiting for the comments re the smell/flies/rats
