Hi everyone

As I have been bleating on here for months now about whether to get chickens, which eglu to buy etc I can now confirm I am getting one.........tomorrow!!!!! It's a red Eglu Classic with run extension and loads of bedding and accessories - a complete starter kit , thanks to Ange1 on the forum!

Once I'm set up, I'm off chicken shopping! Soooo excited!:dance::dance::dance::dance:

How exciting.

Post some pictures when you get sorted, please.

Are you getting hybrids or pure breeds. Our first girls all laid brown eggs, when we added four more we added two that probably would lay blue green eggs and two that laid white eggs. I think it is lovely to have different colour eggs and it helps you to know who laid them. But I am sad and weigh each egg, even when I just had brown eggs I could tell whose was whose.

All my girls are hybrids, four original ones, two of them left now and four new ones with the green and white eggs and then in the spring we rescued three ex batts.

When I add some more it will be pure breeds I think, may get some bantams too :D But not yet :D

Good luck

Chrissie

I'm not sure yet. So much advice. Some people think I should get hybrids as a beginner and some bantams as we have a small garden. I think I will just have a look and see which ones i like the look of and go from there. The only thing with bantams is the eggs being smaller and the broodiness which I will have to consider. I wasn't sure whether the hybrids would be ok in my garden as they are bigger and they have to share with my toddler! What do you think? I need quiet ones!

My pekin bantams are great. They dont trash the garden as they have feathery feet and are the cutest things. The eggs are smaller but they do tend to have more yolk(great if thats what you prefer like my children do). So far mine have not been broody but then i have only had them since april. They dont make any more noise than my big girls if that helps. Good luck with your decision making, we can all offer advice but at the end of the day its really up to what breed you like the look of! :D
