The_eggwards_family
Morning! One of our girls has been off colour - we noticed on Monday night when putting her to bed that she had a dirty bottom and then when I thought about it, I realised she had been in and out of the nest box all day - but we only got 2 eggs so I thought maybe she was egg bound. She is a 15 months ginger hybrid We tried feeling - couldnt find anything, so held her in some warm water - much to her disgust! Tuesday - still no egg and her tail was down so we took her to the vet (she keeps chickens to so). She diagnosed "probable peritonitis" - and gave us 3 days worth of antibiotics - other than that she was amazed by what great condition she is in So, I washed her bottom which is all very fluffy and beautiful now and have been secretly drugging her via crushing the tablet and sprinkling it onto a tiny bit of bread and butter lol! She falls for it everytime! She's eating and drinking fine and today the tail is up! Yay! ANyway this morning I found this: TMI Warning: So is this a lash? Does this mean that she wont ever lay again or do you think she was just clearing out infected/irritated tissue? (its day 4 without an egg now and she normally lays whoppers (100g average) every day!) The difference in her appearance and behavior today is marked - she even thought she could see the puppy off this morning - went all big and flappy and shouted at him lol, whereas yesterday she probably would have let him lie down next to her! Thanks for reading - and sorry for gross pic! Nic
Tweety
Yes, that is definitely a lash. She should feel much better after getting rid of it and, hopefully, that was the cause of her problem rather than peritonitis.
scarlettohara
Well done for sorting her out with the vet who sounds very good I hope she is back to her old self soon, can't answer questions about laying as have no experience of this
Egluntyne
Better out than in. I think it possible that she might not lay again. Time will tell.
Ain't Nobody Here
Eugh, that's quite an impressive lash . Hope she's better for it being out .
The Dogmother
Sometimes they do lay after producing a lash, but it's unusual.
